Thread: SOTD: March 29 - April 4

Well, bummer.
I had planned out an April Fool's Day SOTD pic, but technology failed me. I got everything prepared, put all of the supplies together for the shot, and found out my camera is dead.
Oh, well. For the sake of the effort I figure I'll post in words what I would have photographed.
Olive oil pre-shave
Stick of salted butter for shave cream
Stainless butter knife, honed sharp enough to shave with (at least a little)
Oil and vinegar aftershave
I was impressed that a dollar store table knife could actually take a decent edge. I doubt it would make a great long-term razor, but for at least a first pass it was acceptable. I'm sure that having no real spine to speak of makes a great deal of difference, since it gives the blade a lot of flex. It was honed with increasing grits of sandpaper, then with lapping film. Not pretty, but it works.
Sorry for no pics, but I hope everyone enjoys the humor.

Tuesday night
* Wade&Butcher Extra Hollow Ground
* RS Self Heating Pre-shave Mask
* TGQ Creme de Champagne
* GN 23mm Super Badger UK made in a Champagne cork
* Nivea Balm
* Ed'OV
That W&B must be one of my most comfortable razors. It gives me a very close shave with little effort every time. Not the closest one, but super comfy.

Frios are really tough to dial in to a smooth shave,super sharp is relatively easy, comfy & non-scritchy takes some effort. This one is getting there!Last edited by Seraphim; 04-01-2009 at 02:59 AM.

I've never posted here, but I think it's about time to share my shaves!
Here's the my equipment that I used:
Razor: Boker King Cutter 5/8"
Strop: Illinois #127
Brush: Synthetic from The Body Shop
Shaving Cream: Maca Root Shave Cream, from The Body Shop
Alum: The alum block from classicshaving
Aftershave: Nivea aftershave balm
Face cream: Nivea face cream, for Men of coarse
Routine:
Hot shower
Hot water rinse then lathered up
Stropped: 30 times linen
50-60 times leather
WTG pass, except for around my chin which is slightly XTG at first.
Hot water rinse.
Re-lather.
XTG pass, the sides of my chin get kind of an ATG here.
Cold water rinse.
Apply alum.
Wait about a minute, then another cold water rinse.
Apply the aftershave balm.
Dry the razor, put a bit of mineral oil on it, and clean up the bathroom.
Then put on my face cream for the final touch.
All in all took about 10-15 minutes, and got a very smooth and comfortable shave with 2 passes.Last edited by StraightRazorDave; 04-01-2009 at 04:43 AM.
