Straight shave no. 18

At last things are coming together. Still taking too long and too many passes but gradually developing a feel for wielding the razor. I need to work out how to get the neck/jawline area smooth but at least its at a socially acceptable level now. I just need to continue on as I am getting that little bit better with each shave it!

Don't worry too much about the amount of time required to shave with your straight razor. After all, straight razor shaving is supposed to require a bit more time. That is part of the ritual.

As you become more comfortable with the razor and more proficient with blade angle, etc. the amount of time you are devoting to shaves will decrease, however.

Its OK I'm enjoying the journey!

After three days without a shave it was a pleasure to wack it off, and what else, for the job I selected the Wacker Jungmeister
7/8 after I took a nice long hot shower + Proraso preshave cream

On the neck and jawline, use all parts of the blade; heel, toe and center (not neccessarily at the same time) depending on what comfortably fits the angle and area being worked as well as being aware of the grain of your beard. Once I figured that out, things went well very fast.

Bittersweet... Sweet because it's my first multiple pass shave in a month or two... So smooooth. Bitter because that means that I'm all out of razors to restore and hone... When I'm running the restoration/honing gauntlets, I only do 1pass shaves, because I'm 19, and have slow growing fuzz.. I need to shave test fairly often, so I only do WTG to assess the edge...

The Arsenal:
Razor 1: A Thiers-Issard, name unknown. A gift from the best teacher a shaver could have: Lynn Abrams. Thanks for everything, Lynn; the lessons, the hours, the help, and this gorgeous slice of steel.
Razor 2: A return appearance from the It's A Peech Wedge. At 4/8 this little guy REALLY performs. Smooth, silent, sweet. You better hurry up, Lee, I'm starting to like this one

Soap: TOBS Sandalwood. Love the smell, love the lather... Could have a little more glide, but otherwise wonderful.

Brush: A Birthday Boar. A lovely 24mm by Omega, given to me by my lovely girlfriend, Olivia. To put up with my shenanigans, compulsions, obsessions, and ADs, she truly is the best.

Strop: SRD's Bridle and Tony Miller's Horsehide. A wonderful combination.

Results: I'm really starting to like facelathering... Especially with boars... A wonderful, thick coverage. Two passes, WTG and ATG, left me smooth.

Actually, it was a rather "mild" 92 today with only "moderate" humidity. I just felt like a face freeze this morning!
