Thanked: 9my shave of the day was from two days ago but the site was down. i say that because i don't have the razor in front of me and don't want to get it wrong.
preshave, i honed my second inherited razor, a filarmonica doble temple by jose... (can check it later). this razor was given to me by my barber. the first one given to me by him was honed by a straightrazorplace honemeister, so that was my goal, to get this one shave ready like that. after years of inactive duty, i brought it back to life...
...and had like the best shave ever.
the rest was standard:
williams mug soap
synthetic burma brush
classicshaving.com bay rum aftershave
all that at something like four twenty in the afternoon.

Thanked: 9thanks!
actually, that was unclear. what i didn't want to get wrong, out of respect to this fine artisan, was jose's last name from my razor.
i just dug it out from a post i made on the yahoo group site.
here is the name of the razor i will start using regularly: A FILARMONICA by JOSE MONSERRAT PCU, DOBLE TEMPLE, 14
it's a big one and i see why many of you like big razors.

Hot Shower
6/8 Genco spike
Vulfix 374 silvertip
Tony Miller strop
Williams mug soap
Pinaud Classic.
Though Williams gets a bad rap from some, I love it.
For me it lathers quite well, it doesn't dry out and I
get a very good and close shave. And for some reason
the Pinaud Classic just seemed right today.

Thanked: 346Thur:
Rooney brush
D. R. Harris Arlington soap
Illinois strop
8/8 Wade & Butcher frameback
no A/S
Penhaligon Blenheim Bouquet
The Shapton 15k hone came in a few days ago, so I put the frameback on it for a few laps last night. Very very close comfy shave this morning; the hone looks like a winner.

Cetaphil cleanser
Cetaphil moisturizer
Hot shower
Art of Shaving Lavender soap
Dovo SS silvertip brush
Merkur Classic 1904 Open Comb DE
Merkur Super Stainless Platinum Blade
Art of Shaving Sandalwood Aftershave Balm
I was in a hurry today, so I used the DE. A little frustrating, because this is still the closest, smoothest, and most comfortable shave I have ever had (the barber shop straight edge shaves have been closer but less comfortable).

Cetaphil cleanser
Cetaphil moisturizer
Hot shower
Art of Shaving Lavender soap
Dovo SS silvertip brush
Dubl Duck Goldedge 5/8 round point, honed about 80% by me (passes HHT at heel and toe, not in middle without a swipe)
Issey Miyake after shave emulsion (I needed it after that scraping)
More Issey Miyake after shave emulsion
A close but bumpy shave with a few nicks on my tough area southwest of my mouth. First shave ever on this razor (for anyone), which was new and had no edge when I got it. Before I figured out what I was doing, I took some wash and some metal off the shank . The shave was acceptable and I am very proud of myself. I would like to get this razor very keen, though. I used the norton 4k/8k, a 1/0.5 pasted paddle, and my heirloom wide strop, which also got its first nick this morning.

Thanked: 346Sat:
rooney small style 1 brush
harris arlington soap
illinois strop
8/8 W&B frameback
Pinaud Clubman A/S
Good shave (8pm update: it's now apparent that this was an outstanding shave). A few pinpricks on the corner of my mouth where I went the wrong direction on the first pass, but they disappeared with the cold water.Last edited by mparker762; 08-20-2006 at 12:58 AM.
