This is my third complete straight shave..Lots to learn....
Best regards,

Thanks, Robert - I remember that soap; that's what they sent me as a sample with my shaving soap. Along with some sort of hair shampoo as well. Smelt like eucalyptus.
I am tempted by the Vetyver and after shave oil, but will only put an order in when I need some more soap. Otherwise the shipping costs......

Thank you Mikael. This Helje 41 is a rare bird indeed. She's got a top notch in my collection for sure. +1 on Max' workmanship.
Ahhhhh Sten,
A good tallow-based based soap. That's where it's all at. Sounds wonderful, but sorry to hear that the shop closed. Hence the importance of stocking up, LOL.
Beautiful razor too. She looks like a 1/4 to 1/2 hollow to me. Congrats on dialing her edge. Well done
This Livi is a very nice blade indeed. Good addition to your wonderful TI collection.
Tom,
Nice to see you getting back into the routine of daily shaving
Nice Puma. Great software to boot
Julian,
A BIG heartfelt welcome to SOTD. Congrats on your 3rd str8 shave...No worries, just keep at it. It will click soon enough. It just keeps getting better with practice
Great gear too
I hear ya brotha ;). The S/H is highway robbery
Rum,
Another excellent English soap. Great razor to go with it.
Sorry friends. A lot to do the last days.
A group of students from Lynchburg, VA is here. I already reported. Tomorrow comes a friend (a soldier) he'll stay overnight here. The blogs will get new articles and the Photographies from Israel are in preparing.
And a little bit regular work.
I think next week I've more time for the social network.
One week at home and I didn't ride my Harley...it's a shame for me.
Robert, Thanks for the welcome and the encouragement....
Best regards,
Julian

Result:Today was my first shave since returning from the Mid-MO meetup (see this thread for pics and such). I learned a ton, met some amazing people, and got to hang with some very talented people. I learned that my honing is doing well & that my stropping technique was off and now that it is fixed my edges feel more amazing than ever. I was so stoked to come home and get this razor cleaned up, dressed and ready to shave. The shave was amazing and the edge she took was the best I've put on a blade. All in all, I can just say WOW!
Thanks for all the great pics and posts gentlemen! I love this place!!!
Glenn

I just read here that Blugill (Mark) has passed away suddenly. May he rest in eternal peace. My thoughts and prayers are with his family. It's been a rough year for the SRP & SOTD community.
Wow! What a complete shock. Mark and I often joked that we were brothers from different mothers. May he rest in eternal peace with plenty of cold PBRs and enough good fishing spots to fish every day for an eternity and never fish the same place twice. My thoughts, prayers and condolences go out to his family. Suggest tomorrow we all bust a Blugill shave in rememberance of our fallen friend. I'll be bustin out the 1910 Gem Lather Catcher and going for a catfish's belly smooth shave.
All German stuffs...

Congrats Jeff. Iim glad you had a great day with your wife.
Thank you Glenn.
ONG! That is sad.
Excellent idea! I bought 2 razors from him reciently. ONe is lost in the mail right now but im glad the other has mad it safely here. I will use it tomorrow in memory of Mark!
Beautiful work on that Fili Glenn. She's really something. Quite a nice find my friend
Jeff,
I am willing to bet that this was better than the shave today. Nice move my friend. My wife loves surprises like that too.
Love your Maxormonica Frank
Great cause Monroe and nice going on being 2nd place. One of these days you and Birnando will have to teach me how to play Golf ;)
That was a complete shocker to me. I am still having a hard time swallowing this news (especially so shortly after Amund's passing). Thanks for sharing Glenn. My wife and I's thoughts are with his family in what's sure to be a very difficult time.
Great idea GI...I don't have an SE, but I will be all for a "Catfish Belly Smooth" shave.
Sehr schön
Rene,
What a great way to commemorate the shave. Looking forward to it.
RIP Mark
I will miss you my friend. Especially your colorful descriptives
Mark, you will be greatly missed friend. Condolances to friends and family.
About a month ago me and Mark did a swap, I sent him some SE razors that I had in my collection, and he sent me back a strop for my autostrop and a hilger and sons straight. They will both be used this week in rememberance of him, and kept in my collection forever. Rest in peace M.A.C.
o.k. friends,
7 a.m. in Germany. So I'll be the first one who posts the SOTD in memoriam of Mark.
R.I.P. my friend!

Prep: Hot shower + Proraso
Brush: Henks olive wood silvertip
Razor: Dorko
Cream: Connaught peppermint
AS: Floid
Strops: Neil Miller
Result: Very, very clean indeed :D
I didn´t ecxept much from this soap, to be honest, but it´s really good. Strong, dense and long lived lather, I would have liked it to be a little more slippery, but that´s what i think of a lot of soaps (and I suspect that you can´t have a very dense/compact/cushion lather combined with excellent slip).

Strop: Illinois 835
Brush: FS fine Badger
Soap: MWF
Razor: Royal Invicta 6/8
Astringent: Thayer's Witch Hazel
Balm: Nivea Replenishing
A/S: Wahl Bay Rum
I normally pull out a wedge to deal with a 3 day growth, but the Invicta has been sitting on my shelf stropped and ready to go for 3 days and I couldnt say no. It was up to the challenge, handled the thick stubble with no worries . I didnt go for the full 3 pass BBS tonight because I'm doing a test shave tomorrow night and if I do a good BBS tonight I wont have a long enough growth tomorrow to assess the edge I've just honed. You know what I mean?, do I over think these things?

Glad you had a great time mate, I'm totally jealous. Beautiful razor too.
I just read this terrible news. Mark was one of those characters who's posts here on SOTD I really looked forward too.
Such an awful thing to find out. My thoughts are with his family. I'll be using my grandfather's GEM tomorrow night as a tribute.
Thanks for letting us know Glenn.
Grant
Rest in peace Mark. My condolances to family and friends.

I was shocked when i heard about Mark. I bought 2 razors from him reciently. One is missing in USPS land. Today i used the Kobar i bought from him. Its sad to think he was the last one to use this razor. Mark will always be remembered. He had great taste in Razors and he will be missed!
Tony Miller strop
TGN 26mm brush
Kobar
Spanish Fig & Nutmeg + TOBS St James
That is a very classy thing to do David
And a fine shave it is Tom
Nice Dorko Mikael
That's a very lovely Genco Otto.
Well done Konstantinos...I know Mark is smiling down on this shave
BIUUUUUU-TI-FUL shave Birnando. Those Solgens are truly special blades. Nice tributary shave to Mark
Wonderful choice Grant
and I agree with Glenn on this: "Not over thinking, good planning"
GI,
Of all of your SOTDs, this one is my favorite. Great tribute to a lost friend.
Lovely shave José
Rene,
Nice tribute...he loved that Kobar. I am glad she's in a great home now. Mark had sent it (and his Wester bros) me to be honed different methods. I guess I am trying to justify (in my head) that I had the honor of holding a favorite of his in my hands. I don't know...I guess it's a long winded way of saying I miss him.

Weather very uninspiring here in Wales, two pass shave with minor clean up, West Indian limes and the New Forest brush sure do whip up some lather, more to the point, the shave was enjoyable and technically correct.
