Oh ya, that razor surely is a thing of beauty! Good job!

The letters are actually silver. It's just a reflection on the blade too. The razor has the green scales and everything else is silver. It was hard to get the lighting right so that the translucent nature of the scales could be highlighted.
Here are some pics from someone else's Otto Deutsch Hans razor:

Pre: Hot shower
Brush: Simple badger
SC: D.R. Harris "Rose"
Razor: 5/8 Edwin Jagger

Note: After a busy day at the office I felt an urge for something to take the edge of the day. DR Harris with a soft flowery fragrance did its magic.

[QUOTE=tumtatty;808257]Let me introduce you to my friend Hans...Otto Deutsch Hans. I recently acquired him on ebay. It was the first time I saw a razor and had to have it no matter the cost because it was a thing of beauty. Being new to straights I'd never heard of Otto Deutsch before, but let me tell you I will never forget that name now! I want to grab every man who shaves with a modern multi-blade razor and shake him. "Do you feel like a million bucks after you shave?" "Do you look forward to shaving everyday and take extra time to do it?"
Because baby, I do!!
I think this is the closest shave I've ever had! Best part is, I restored the blade, scales and honed it myself! All I've got are the Norton stones and a cheap Chinese 12k from Woodcraft, but this razor took an edge like none I've ever encountered.
The soap I used as from the Beer Soap company (Sam Adams Double Bock and Bay Rum...2 of my favorites!). It was not a performer though. By the time I lathered up and finished the first pass on my cheeks, my neck had dried and the suds were gone...oh well. Hans had no trouble with the stubble anyhow.
I finished up with my favorite Bay Rum variety of aftershave and cologne: Burts Bees.

Awesome! Congrats! They are very beautiful razors. Even better is that you restored her and honed her up yourself. Great job.

Just got done off the hones, this razor honed up after having to use a rolling x stroke, it was worth the effort, DFS.
Great bunch of shaves all week. Haven't yet figured out who I am more jealous of. Either Robert, Mikael, or Birnando. You guys definitely have my admiration of all the fine razors you have. Hard to be envious of such a great bunch tho...
Thanks! So is the Lavender like O&C by C&S? Or anything like the Castle Forbes Lavender products? I think the Vetyver sounds appealing though. I don't like very spicy vetiver scents, but if this is as traditional as they make it to be, might be worth a shot. Likewise for the Copra Oil!
Thanks for the support, Bill and Rene

This shave is from sundays shave. Crown and sword. I have 2 of these and one wash honed by a honmeister and this by me. Both do NOT give that great of a shave. IS it me or has someone out there been able to get a smooth edge on these Crown & Swords?
Todays shave was provided by Bill. He was kind enough to hone 3 razors for. A blind shave test for myself. 3 Different methods. Genco army/navy and a Genco gold seal jr. Both delievered an outstanding shave. The gold seal is smoother and the army navy was smooth very sharp but had an ever so slight irritation or maybe a crispness from it being so sharp. Neither of them being a downside.

Kalerolf,
Not just a cool shave...A Mama Bear "Ice" Cool shave. Fabulously cool Goshen too
Thank you for those kind words Jamie. What can I say: you guys inspire me.
PS: Glad you like the Japanese Frameback. Stay tuned for more this week.
+1
Wowwww Paul...now, 25nm is extremely small buddy. I was under the impression that diamond particle sizes (at least those used for razor pastes etc) were on average 500nm. Yours is ~20 times smaller and finer. I am impressed. That should put on a hell of a sharp edge...Maybe you're right, the edge may be too thin and hence unstable to be usable.
I know...tell me about it José, LOL
Stunning photo Teiste
Johan,
Reading about this wonderful shave takes the edge off my busy day too. Well done and thank you
Nice razor Chief
PS: How many scales did you end up shaping?
Joe,
Happy anniversary. May you and wife celebrate your 50th and 75th in style. It just keeps getting better with time. Keep having fun my friend. That's what it's all about.

Thank you Joe...but I can honestly say (and I think Mikael and everyone else will agree) that Birnando has every razor on this planet (probably two to 3 of each), past, present and maybe even future.
Not sure what the C&S smells like, but the CF lavender comes relatively close (in scent)...The MdC lavende smells a bit purer to me. Get the Vetiver...you will like it. If you don't, I am sure someone will take it off your hands, LOL
Hog,
What can I say? You're the man. I had missed your SOTDs...this one was hilarious.
And he goes for the La Toja...AWESOME Frank
Dude,
With such a beautiful blade, all you can concentrate on is the photo???? Man, forget the photography, great looking piece of steel Jeff. Congrats my friend
Hmmmm Rene...I shaved with a C&S once and all I remember was that it was fantastic. Smooth as butter.
Fantastic looking Gencos Rene. I am sure you can dial the edges back a bit to fit your preference
A Montague/Harris Lavender Galore???? Touchdown Julian
Back to being relatively clean shaven!
As per usual: Fitjar Lighthouse Bay Rum, Rooney badger, Dovo C-Mon Blackie, a splash of witch hazel followed by a couple fingers of Bruichladdich... :y
https://lh4.googleusercontent.com/-9...0/P6280461.JPG
A good two pass shave, a fine whiskey, and a good night to peruse some SOTD posts.
Love the Blackie!!!!!!
Robert, Yup the diamond sprays get real small. On my knives it's amazing, but that is usually at 20-30 degree's on a much thicker piece of metal. I may try it on a wedge soon just to see. I'm in of the same thought as you with the hollow ground blades making it too unstable.
Good morning friends,
today a smooth shave with my Castagnon 8/8

Few acquisitions in the meantime, so plenty of shaving stuff to enjoy from now on.

Mikael is right, Jamie. The more and the longer you think you should put it off, the less you will even attempt to get back to it.
However it may come back to you after months, and then it may stay. With me it stayed on the third time it came.
Don't push yourself, shave every time as you wish and as it pleases you. Perhaps you need more time to enjoy your Feather. When the time comes that you'll have kind of enough of it, though, first thing that'll get back into your mind will be the straight - remember that. Straight shaves are (to me) clearly superior* to anything else and highly rewarding.
Nice shot as usual and lovely razor, excellent work by Neil.
*with respect to technique required and acquired, not with respect to the resulting closeness
Awesome Attitude :tu
Beautiful piece of Japanese steel Robert
Congratulations, thats a very satisfying feeling, and a beautiful razor too.
Congratulations Joe.
I thought it was just me. I have one, and it has been one of my most difficult razors to get a really nice edge on. I've got it shaving pretty well now (the best I've had it), but it took a lot of trial and error, it didnt seem to respond well to my PHIG or the Thuri. I'm sure I have read other opinions that say they take a great edge though, possibly from Max? But it sounds like he could put a sweet edge on a rusty axe.

Pre-Shave: A relaxing shower Brush: Semogue 2010 LE #66 Razor: Ern ATOR 6/8 Honing Regimen: Chosera 1k, 5k, and 10k followed by 40 circles and 20 X-strokes on Iwasaki choice Nakayama using water only Strop: Kanayama Soap/Cream: SRD Sweet Patchouli + Bomb Boheme + glycerin Astringent: Thayer's Lavender After shave Balm: Sabon EdT: Montale Black Aoud Results: I decided to experiment a bit with my finishers to see how I can maximize my impact with my new Choseras. I took this one to my Nakayama, which had not seen much duty as a finisher since I got my Oozukus. I wanted to see how it would work without slurry, so I went water only. The result was very smooth and very sharp. I was left very BBS, but this was not my favorite edge of all times. I think the Nakayama needs at least a tomonagura slurry. I'll continue to tweak this edge.

Strops: Neil Miller
Result: Catfishbelly clean :D
Wow, I got this baby back from Neil today and it´s one smooth operator! At first I didn´t think it was that sharp enough (I was careful when using, as I allways are when shaving with a freshly honed Miller blade), but after I stropped I wanted to check with a HHT and it was easly sharp enough :D. I found the AS yesterday in an antique shop and it smells lovely and the amber coulor is excellent + it was like skin food for a hungry face when I put it on :D

Great two pass shave. Not a lot left to shave after the Lather Catcher shave yesterday. This shave, like most, was conducted under the strict supervision of a trained safety observer, my cat. You can see him in the mirror just to the right of the cologne in the mirror.

I feel like a real man again tonight. I've just had my first day back working full-time in 15 months, and I cant wait to bring home a decent pay check to my family.
Driving a fork-lift and using power tools all day is also a pretty good way to get that manly feeling:D
I had to go with the W&B tonight followed by Old Spice, dont get much more blokey than that.
2 passes for a DFS. Time to kick back and relax.

First off:
Thanks to all of you for your kind words and well wishes yesterday! I really appreciated all the PM's and the kind words here in the SOTD thread:)
The surgery today was no biggie, so I went home as soon as the effects of the drugs wore off. More or less:)
And what a nice surprise the mailman had for me today:)
A new Custom. I like receiving parcels like this.
Pre-Shave:Hot towel and a good washing of the face. Brush: H.L. Thäter, 25mm Silvertip Razor: Buddel Custom, 8/8" Damascus steel. French Point. black and white Ebony scales and Mammoth ivory wedge. Honing Regimen: Gabor:) Strop: MickR's Kangaroo strop Soap/Cream:DR Harris Arlington shaving soap Scuttle:Schwarzweisskeramik, Large White Astringent: Alum After shave Balm: DR Harris Arlington EdT: DR Harris Arlington Results: Not my finest shave, but that has all to do with me and the after effects of being sedated. In honesty I'm still a bit tipsy... The tools performed wonderfully. This brand new Custom was a true pleasure to receive and use. Very fine craftsmanship, beautiful materials and great design. I look forward to trying this blade out when "sober" :)

Good afternoon Gentlemen!
Shave prep: Face wash
Brush: Long handled Frank Shaving Finesrt Badger
Soap: Connaught luxury shaving cream
Razor: Unknown 5/8 hollow ground, round point
Honing regimen: J-nats (Oozuku w botan, tenjou and tomo-nagura, oozuku with water as last step)
Strop: nun2sharp's hanging leather strop
After Shave Splash: Lavender spice, house blend
Notes: I recieved my new j-nat set yesterday and wanted to use this razor for testing purposes. I used it just a few days ago and still can remember what it was like before. I am quite happy. It certainly was quite a bit sharper, although not as smooth as last time. Seems I need to work it a little more on the strop. Gave myself a small nick on the jawline, it stopped bleeding unattended before the shave was over. All in all, a nice shave. This lavender spice blend is also growing on me, I've found I reach for it quite a bit lately.
