Yes my friend, I like the Lavanda, and other Lavender things too. A little retro scent for me.

A little Sh*t with the sugar!
The good: I ordered soap friday night from Mikes Natural soap. ( you made it sound intriguing Bill) And it got here yesterday evening. Got 1 bar of Rose/Cedarwood and 1 of Orange/Cedarwood/Black Pepper. And a bonus sample of Lemongrass/ Eucaliptus. Since it was going to be a nice spring day, I opted for the Lemongrass/Eucaliptus.
The bad: I took the DD Satinedge 6/8 to the Naniwa to squeeze just a bit more out of an already superb edge and got there! Took the razor into the bathroom and set it on the counter so I could strop it and my brother showed up. Went and shot the breeze with him for 1/2 hour or so and came back to the razor, which was now on the floor thanks to the cat... I don't know who to be madder at, myself for knowing how the cat is, or the cat for just being, well, a cat. The edge has a nice ding in it now, all that work and back to the drawing board. Too pissed to hone so back in the drawer it went. Pulled out the #14 Henckels and on the the good again!
Prep: Hot Shower/ Proraso creme
Brush AOS Pure Badger
Scuttle: G5
Soap: Mikes Natural Lemongrass and Eucaliptus
Razor: #14 Henckels in Ivory scales
Post: Proraso AS/ Nivea Lotion
Result: After getting the ratio right the new soap exploded with a wonderful creamy goodness of lemons and a slight eucaliptus. I think the balance of scents id spot on! The #14 aka the "velvet squeegee" did its usual superb job and another remarkable shave to start the day.

I always thought Williams was just awful stuff, until I read this thread: http://straightrazorpalace.com/soaps...me-lather.html
Soaked the puck in piping hot water during the shower, loaded the bristles and worked the brush in a bit of the water left in the bowl after soaking. Never knew Williams could make this kind of lather.
Wish I'd've taken photos. I lifted the brush out of the bowl, and it looked like I was holding a soft-serve ice cream cone! :D
Have a great shave and a great day!

Brought the König out of the drawer after many months of disuse. Combining the three creams yielded a fantastic lather that provided a wonderful medium for the blade. The best shave in many weeks ensued and the classic BBS was the result. The Gris Clair just called out for the perfect finish. And today will be better than yesterday.

Well I finally understand this thread. This is only shave 10 or so for me but WOW! I figured something out. I had about a 3 day beard growth and lots of time. I stropped my razor ~90 times on a boarded strop nice and slow. Then I let my brush soak in hot water for 4 minutes. After I worked up a lather using the Derby shave cream. I use a small stainless steel metal bowl but leave the lather sitting in another large cup full of hot water to keep the lather warm (since I cant yet afford a scuttle... someday).
Then I took a shower and cleaned my face very well followed by a little conditioner. I jumped out of the shower and dried off (not my face) and put on the lather and let it sit for about a minute working it in well first ofcourse. Next the hot towel treatment to my face for about 3 minutes wiping off all the shaving cream. Then really rubbed in the prorazo pre-shave cream as discussed on another post. Then a really nice warm lather again with my Derby menthol still warm from sitting in my makeshift scuttle. Then a really soft and slow shave, only WTG cause im still learning and not the chin yet... And I have never felt such a great shave in my life. It was peaceful and relaxing, no nicks, cuts or tugging at all I figured something out with the angle that has a smile still on my face.
After it was all done a generous helping of Nivea shave balm and I was good to go to work.
This has been the best so far and if anyone has suggestions I'm all ears. Learning what works is starting to work...

Hell, if 1961 is the watermark for young whippersnappers, I'm in! (circa Fall 1962). Sorry to hear about the Duck, my scraggly old cat is my best buddy and has supervised many a shave but yeah, occassionally, he's a P.I.T.A. too. One day I'll score a Golden Edge (and one of those brand spankin new Peterson System pipes too.)
Funny isn't it? I never thought I'd ever live in a different world than the one I grew up in but here I am. From what you describe, you'd never know we grew up in different countries. My summers lasted forever too. I spent them camping in the mangroves, drinking beer at the beach, canoe trips up this river or that (my brother and I once floated the Peace River clean up into Georgia). The Gulf of Mexico was a fixture in my childhood and I'd give everything I have for one more lazy hot summer spent bobbing in the tepid, green water and listening to Led Zeppelin, Lynrd Skynrd, Jackson Browne, Jimmy Buffett and Bob Marley. Indeed nowhere to go and all day to get there, not one bill to worry about and not a care in the world, those were indeed the days. If it wasn't fun, we just didn't bother. Come home from the beach, shower, eat, re-beer and fish all night. Sleep late the next day and do it all over again.
I was craving my fatboy today...dunno why, cant tell you the last time he popped over to play a full game, but today was his.
Received a bunch of pinaud products today. Lilac Vegetal, Private Reserve, Lime Sec and Citrus musk. Already have the original so all I am missing is the bay rum I believe. Anyway since I accidentally squirted the Lilac in my nose while sniffing it, I decided that would be my scent this evening.
Set up
Hot shower (really hot)
Cella
Semogue 1305
Gillette Fatboy 1958 (D4)
Astra Platinum
Alum
Pinaud Lilac Vegetal
So I took the 1305 for a spin on the old Cella tonight. Seriously guys I can not figure out why more online stores dont sell these, for that matter I cant figure out why more people aren't using them! It was a touch on the smelly side, but no more than my last super badger! it washed out in seconds, where as my Omega 48 still stinks of pig when wet (roughly 50 uses plus random shampoo's later). The lather was some of the best Cella lather I have ever had. No added glycerin no added creams, just pure Cella. The shave was fantastic! Not C-Mon, Schulze or TI fantastic, but every bit as good as most of my other blades. I kept the Fatboy dialed to 9 the entire shave. A couple of weepers but no irritation or nicks. The Lilac left me feeling and smelling pretty. Tonight was a good night Gentlemen! I hope all of your shaves were as good, if not better!!
Till tomorrow my brothers!

Today's shave, one of my fabulous ever shave, with the Nomads of C&E.Dedicate this one to my friends ,Robert the 'Bladerunner' and Carl at Mount Torrens, Oz.The combination of the cream and soap was terrific, giving the O'Wing a very smooooth glide thro'out the 2 passes.Carl, the pic is not as good as yours especially when there is somebody on the right trying to squeeze into the group.
Have a fabulous shave to all members of the Forum.

The day was started with an hour of running followed by a shower and a shave.
I went with a Tim Zowada in Damascus steel today.
The edge was recently refreshed on a Shoubudani Asagi, and it is now just where I want it.
Acqua di Parma was selected as the software of the day. SC, ASB, and EdT.

Yeah? I used to be into Mozart before Led Zep. I remember my brother saying "Carl, listen to this song". What seemed like 1/2 an hour later, when the singer was singing '..and as we wind on down the road, our shadows taller than our souls...' I remember saying, "Is this the same song". I think pretty much everyone remembers the first time they heard that song...
EXCELLENT photo...
Yeah, you've gotta take it slow, esp at first...
Yeah, sounds like we essentially did the same things but in different hemispheres, and with maybe different brands of beer :-) I know we may have driven gas guzzlers back then, but it was simpler life style and all in all I think less wasteful and we used less resources. Then we all ended up working for the 'man'.
Again you make me laugh! :-)

I’m getting a cold. Headache. Sore throat. Etcetera. Therefore Proraso was called for, if only for the fact that it reminds me of ‘Vicks’ vapour rub; a common chest cold remedy in these here parts. ‘Vicks’ is essentially some sort of petroleum jelly containing most, if not all, of Tasmania’s Eucalypt forests. I’m not ‘dissing’ Proraso nor even ‘Vicks’ specifically, I’m generally in the mood for dissing pretty much everything material and immaterial, past, present and future.
The shave itself was actually quite good.
It was after waking (of course) and wondering if I should call in ‘sick’ and before the real ‘sickness’ set in, and colleagues started making comments commonly heard during The Plague and also, I remember, during Huckleberry Finn’s ride on the river on a raft with Jim - remember when Huck is about to give Jim up, but changes his mind and lies that it’s his sick ‘pap’ on the raft? I love the way the book talks of Huck’s feeling about Jim, how he feels that Jim is wrong for wanting to be free and go back to his family, and how Huck, by facilitating this, is depriving the slave owner of his rightful property to the slave. It’s heavily laboured in sarcasm. I wonder how well, or even if, it was received when written? Reading it now (or listening to it as I do via an audio book) we laugh at the irony or sarcasm. Twain was a brave man.
Anyway, I got side tracked there. As I was saying, the shave was quite good, and the Überlather was so abundant it demanded a second session…

(here endeth one of Carl's informative, yet completely irrelevant, SOTD posts...)
This is precisely why I absolutely love this place! The pace is fast and the subject matter ecclectic. Less than 24 hours ago we were discussing partying, classic rock and roll and muscle cars now we're on to classic American Literature. I think it was William Faulkner who said that Mark Twain started American Literature. No doubt Twain was a stud, a totally talented writer and a master of satire, sarcasm and humor in general. Following the Equator is another fantastic work by Mark Twain.
I'm glad I struck a Chord! I think tomorrow I may listen to Gustave Flaubert, The Legend of St Julian the Hospitaller on the way to work. Not related to Twain in the least, but an incredible work nevertheless and I'm in the mood for it. Either that or Leaves of Grass; I'm sure you'd know Leaves of Grass...
As the days lengthen, and the weather cools, one seems naturally to turn to books...Though currently I'm pretty well hooked on 'Walden' by Thoreau, again, I'm sure you'd know him...Then again, Kafka is always a delight...as is Huxley. As you can see, I love literature...

Thanks for reminding me to read books that I like. I currently read books that I am required to read, which is not always fun. I have a novel waiting on my desk that needs reading. Big thanks to you and 1oldGI for the reminder.
PS. Carl, your posts are never irrelevant and I hope you feel better soon.
Wednesday TGOH! (Thank God we're Over the Hump!)
Prep: Hot Shower/ Proraso pre-post creme
Brush: 4125-2 Thater
Scuttle: G5
Soap: Mike Natural Soap, Lemongrass/ Eucalyptus
Razor: Brummel #18
Post: Proraso AS/ Nivea Lotion Unscented
Result: The Brummel was my first razor and it is still an ongoing love affair! I swear, if I had to I could shave with a splash of water, this razor never disappoints. Maybe it's just because I am so familiar with it, but it is that good! Three passes and BBS, the soap was a bit of a disappointment, but maybe it's me. Love the scent of the Lemons on a warm spring day though...
Carl, I have read Huckleberry Finn more than once, but never thought to read the others...now, I have a goal!
