Today I'm testing the new Tam O'Shanter hone I got from SRP member coully, which I used to hone two razors last night with input from Joe Chandler. Thanks guys!
The Wacker was only honed on the TOS, the Kinfolks was honed on the TOS and finished on the chrome oxide paddle. I used the Wacker on the right cheek and the Kinfolks for everything else. The TOS Wacker wasn't quite as smooth as the CO Kinfolks or quite as sharp, but it was a lot closer than I would have believed beforehand. The Wacker is very hard and is prone to microchipping and has always been a bear to hone. I've always had to give it a lot of laps on the boron carbide paddle to get the edge smoothed out before going to the chrome oxide paddle, but the TOS is a slow enough cutter and leaves such a polished edge that it didn't microchip and left the edge about as polished as the boron carbide, maybe even a little better. Both razors shaved beautifully. I love the kinfolks razor, I haven't found an american razor yet that didn't shave as well as the best of the european makes. Although the euro razors usually look nicer the american razors are all go and no show.
Some more experiments are needed, but I'm feeling some serious love for this hone.
im glad and relieved you like it, thanks, simon

I'm getting better with my stropping and shaving, which is allowing me to get more from the smaller/thinner razors in my collection. My favourite 5/8 so far is a Tower roundpoint that is a little meatier than a full hollow.

I don't even have to mention how the razor performed :nj Today I used the C&E Sweet Almond Oil cream (worked up in the palm of my hand as my lathering bowl is being used for that Vetyver soap I created with Malizia and Colleen's formula samples). The cream performed extremely well. Too bad their soaps don't come anywhere near that level.

5/8 Wostenholm "celebrated hollow ground razor"
Harris face milk
Got the Wostenholm in last night. It's a square point swayback design, and is quarter hollow ground. Scales are some kind of dark-stained wood, and the pivot is still tight. I honed it on the 4k, Tam o'Shanter, then finished on the Chrome Oxide paddle. It's very very close - it pops hair but needs a little more time on the hone. Still gave me a BBS shave though.

I just got that razor in the zone (big accomplishment for me) - Nice. The soap works just great, but the scent is so...average compared to the EDT that is doesn't excite me much. Not worth the money IMHO. Maybe their cream next time.

Great shave - this is my favourite 5/8 at the moment as its a little heaver than a full hollow and just seems to get through the beard better.
I'm approaching the end of my first month and am getting to the point where I need almost no touch up with the DE to get the closeness I need to feel presentable.

I rated this razor 9 the first time I tried it (out of 10, 9+ needed for my top circle) and it still is, despite some Swaty love. Needs more, I guess. Shave was good, some light red spots, which were quickly gone. While the shave was not a very satisfying experience (compared to my best shaves) - skin looked great afterwards, and shave quality, especially on the chin, was very good.

Tested Colleen's Highlander cream and shaved with the Genco Grant.
Highlander -- It performed as well as any cream I've ever used and even though it was reddish, it didn't dye my face or my brush. The scent wasn't really my style but the moisture and the glide I got from the cream were pimp.
The shave itself was ultra-close but I managed to nick myself just under the nose. Don't ask me how, I didn't slip up or anything but it still happened.
Oh, the humiliation of a nick!
just kidding, Ilija :D
BTw, maybe I missed your report on the EAB (after the strop ordeal) and the TEW - have you tried these with the chromium oxide?
Cheers
Ivo
Ivo, the TEW is waiting for a custom scale job so I didn't shave with it yet. I worked a bit with the ESK, got a decent shave out of it, gave it another 10 rounds on the bench hone and it should come up in 5-6 more days. If the quality doesn't improve, I'll try it with the Japanese slip-stones as they are better for delicate work.

Being stuck away from home for two weeks, I'm supprised how many shaves I've been able to get without a strop to use. I thought it would have been a little tuff to keep useing a razor without a stroping befor shaving. I plan to get a two sided paddel strop for traveling with sooner or later.

Late post about an early shave:
Cavendish Black and The Winner, a 2-passer. That little blade can't cease to amaze me with its performance, for under $10 shipped from the States. I'd buy more of those puppies but, with one exception, I don't like to duplicate brands lol.
Edit: Bathroom's almost completely finished, with a towel ring reserved for my shaving towels and a strop hook. They will become fully functional as soon as I put up the medicine cabinet.

Very good shave. This is one of Robert Williams' preproduction razors that I managed to wheedle out of him several weeks ago, and only now received due to the USPS's inability to distinguish between "2nd day delivery" and "2nd month delivery" :cen.
It's a very nice piece of kit, it feels like a W&B would be if they were still around making razors; if you look at some of his other razors you'll notice the stylistic influence of Sheffield. One nice non-W&B'ish touch I'll mention is the adjustable pivot :y For those of you with Feather AC's you'll recognize the utility of this feature, but the version that Robert is using is actually attractive, it took me a bit to notice that the dimple in the center of the pin wasn't from a punch but was suspiciously hex-shaped :tu There's a lot to be said for (a) being able to adjust the tension without beating on your expensive razor with a hammer and (b) being able to clean the pivot without a drill press and hammer.
I'll have more to say about this razor once I've spent a little more time with it, but first impressions are very good.

Great shave today!:tu I'm really getting the hang of this.
Shave-tested the Boker 6/8 today. It just wiped the stubble off my face. I thought I'd go easy on the honing and give it multiple shave-tests but it passed the first one with flying colors :tu This one's definitely going up for sale as I have a couple more identical ones lol.
Nothing fancy, besides Tony's strop, but a great shave... :tu
