For some reason I keep thinking there must be something wrong with my honing skills, despite the obvious proof that a fire destroyed the Satinedge's temper, so I try various things on the hones, from time to time, and it keeps failing shave-tests. I didn't like the way it shaved at all, so after about half a cheek on the first pass, I switched to the EAB Eskilstuna and got a good shave in the end.

Hot rinse
Coconut hair conditioner rubbed into hairs
TAGMSC soap
Purpleheart Kessar 5/8 square point
Alum block
Witch hazel
Tabac a/s
Today was a great shave!
I recieved a couple of razors from Toxic and chose the Kessar bladed purpleheart a shot. The little spike point intreagued me so I gave that a go in preference to the 5/8 Lewis roundpoint he sent over as well.
Today was undeniably another step forward in terms of quality of shave, and I now know what "scary sharp" really means.
Did someone say Quattro ? Piffle, say hello to your new home (the bin).
1 quick pass down and against, job done, 20 minutes and I wasn't hurrying and as smooth as the smoothest of babies bottoms and zero irritation. One tiny nick caught on the tiniest of spots on my face. Lesson learned, a little more care is required with spike points...

Thanked: 9Ilija,
Glad to hear the EAB is working out for you, after all (who can forget the destruction it inflicted at first... I was seriously bummed)
Cheers

Ivo, thanks both for the gift and the sympathies. The issue was me not adjusting my stropping technique to the blade. It's a lesson learned on a strop that already survived my learning process and that will become a traveller once I can divert some cash into getting one of Tony's firsts.
