The day: Glorious and -3ºC. The shave: a nice quick shave with another rescued Rusky from Israel. The cheap soap is like VdH with a different aroma. The brush..Ok, but I would never buy it retail!
The fun of trying things makes the day go a bit better and quicker!

Gentlemen, I am away visiting my daughter. The soft water — with water softener — helps create luxurious lather, mounds of it with my little Rooney brush, but it also makes the hands slick and objects slippery. So shaving here is an adventure. I must say, traveling with a stainless steel Friodur makes for easy care of the razor.
Furthermore, my daughter is a dietitian, and with a long list of credentials, so you have to be careful what you eat in this neighborhood. OY!
So then here is today's travel shave bill:
Razor: 13/16 Henckels Friodur INOX round point
Strop: Illinois 835, a small 2.3" strop rigged with a tether — the Door Knob Special
Brush: Rooney Heritage 1/1 super silvertip in a Simpson travel tube
Soap: D.R. Harris Arlington shave stick
Pre-shave: John Allan Slick Water
Face lather
Alum: RazoRock
Witch hazel: Thayers Super Medicated with Aloe Vera
Balm: Institute Karite
Aftershave: Pierre Cardin
Prep: 4 mile run and hot shower
Razor: 5/8 Wosty Pipe, with a wicked spike point
Strop: Illinios 827, follow up with SRD Premium I
A/S: The Lilac (still working on liking this stuff)
Result: Scary! This is the razor my then 16 year old son gave me for Father's Day. It took quite of bit of work and hours to get it shave ready, but I was determined. I have since polished up a bit, and it's proven to be a very good and smooth shaver. The last time I used it, which was just over a week ago, I gave myself the worst shaving cut to date. I was rushed, not paying attention, thinking ahead about the date with my wife, came in at a steep angle high on my right cheek bone (and I never shave that high on my face) and WHAM, this razor, with little effort, slid right into the flesh of my upper cheek. It took what seemed like forever to stop the bleeding. It's healing nicely, will probably leave a scar, but that remains to be seen. The cut was just over an inch long, and very deep.
I did go to the grocery store right after the shave. It looked like I had been in a fight, and I noticed people were avoiding eye contact.
Anyhow, I have been reluctant to use this razor again, but time seems to take care of these kinds of fears, in this case, just over 1 week. So I touched it up on a 12k, stropped the heck out of it, and went simple with Williams and warm water. Oh, what a great shave, and blood free.
Have a great Tuesday, and stay safe!

Dumas aine medaile/ MB bear ice/ fine badger brush/ A.S.Le Male. Smooth head.
Honed up a vintage puma 89 I recently acquired. The bevel seemed to be satisfactory, so I put it through a 4k-8k pyramid, followed by barber hone, Cr Ox on balsa, and strop and it took a great edge.
This is a razor that has a lot of mileage and belonged to a barber. I was initially disappointed with the amount of hone wear and the reduced width of the blade, but it sat amazingly flat on the stones and leather and the shave quality certainly makes it a keeper in my rotation. I think I will call this one Mellow Yellow.
Prep: Hot water and proraso green
Cream: Proraso red
Brush: Rooney
Razor: Puma 89
Aftershave: Dominica Bay Rum
Moisturizer: Emu Oil

Recycled photo, sorry. This was the forth razor I bought, got it from the bay thinking it was an FWE special only to find someone had put an unmarked blade in it. Turns out the blade is one heck of a shaver though with some really hard steel that holds an edge forever. 3 passes to BBS and I am off to work.
Have a Great Wednesday Gents!

The shave was just blissful. I have been using the Rooney almost exclusively since I bought it, and it still has not reached full bloom! Despite that fact it is a phenomenal shaving brush that I do not regret investing in at all!
