Boithday Shave (51; oh my GOODNESS!!)

Razor | Klas Törnblom| Soap | Madame Scodioli ‘Step right Up’ | After Shave | Madame Scodioli ‘Step Right Up’

A pleasant shave after taking the dog for a walk to the forest. As I shaved I listed to Beethoven. The Fifth symphony was just a TAD too dramatic for the occasion, though.

I’ve just completed (I think) honing a 7/8 Bengall wedge that was given to me. An hour of setting the bevel last night and removing a small chip. I did this without tape; as the tape was wearing too fast (I was a little heavy handed maybe) and now I wish I’d used tape. This morning I DID use tape, using a pyramid (20 x 4, 20 x 8, 19 x 4, 20 x 8, 18 x 4, 20 x 8, etc). Last night I forced a nice patina on it; but the honing has removed some of that so it’s sitting in lemon juice right now. Last night I used a mixture of warm vinegar and lemon juice. I cut the lime with the razor and left it sitting in the lime for a little while. I do like a nice forced patina. I think this will look nice with bone scales. I put a pair of old wooden scales on for now to make the honing easier (last night I set the bevel without any scales on it) and to test shave it. After the lemon juice this morning I’ll give it 10 laps on the Shapton 16k and then see how it goes shaving tomorrow. It certainly shaves leg hair though.

I’m not sure if the steel on this razor is especially soft, but it seemed really easy to hone. Maybe I’m just used to the harder Swedish steel I’ve been honing lately?

The razor I honed and 'patinated' (not the SOTD razor) is shown below (in temporary scales)...

Thanks, Mikael, for the razor, it was really nice of you to send it...

Stranger, if you passing meet me and desire to speak to me, why should you not speak to me? And why should I not speak to you?

Cool, I might have to pace myself though. Can I keep them for three weeks? Recovery time, you know....I mean, only if they're complicit, I'd hate to come off as a male chauvinist pig...

    Strop: Illinois 835
    Brush: Silvertip Badger in Cocobolo
    Soap: Tabac
DE: Gillette Tech w Feather Blade
    Razor: Simmon's Barber's Pet 5/8
    Astringent: Thayer's Witch Hazel
    Balm: Nivea Replenishing
    A/S: Aqua Velva Ice Blue

The Barber's Pet was one of my first razors, from way back in 2009.
I've always struggled to match the edge Oz put on it back then.
I gave it a touch up on the recently acquired Norton 4/8 followed by the Naniwa 12K and the resulting shave was fantastic.
