Comments :
Yesterdays SoTD was a poor affair. I'd lined up some MWF, and was convinced I'd got lathering figured out. How wrong I was. The lather was thin and bubbly, and no amount of soap would correct this. Even making a new lot didn't solve the problem, the next lot was just as poor. Downhearted, I began to question things; my posts in the SoTD threads, the validity of my recent purchases, etc...
Today, I squeezed the last bits out of the old tube of Palmolive. After yesterdays efforts, I didn't really care much for anything. Wow. The lather it produced was the best I'd had for ages. And with this in mind, I've found new vigor for my posts in these threads.
Today a wonderful shave whit one of my Herder razors.
A 2pass BBS shave.
When i was shaving i was thinking surprisingly 3or four razors whit the the same looks feel different no one has the same weight.
One thing they have in common, and that is they provide a exellent shave.

It's been mentioned that it takes about 3 months to break in and at my current usage means that it will take me a year before that happens. Hardly any of the hairs have yet to split on mine.
I like it - it's a good brush, hardly any shedding and good back bone and reasonable flow.
Not too scratchy, but it's not badger.
Good ergonomics with the handle and solidly made. Does need a decently tall brush stand.

I've not used MWF, but generally, when I end up with a weak bubbly lather, it's because I used too much water and not enough soap. I'm also learning to 'kill the bubbles', that is, I pretty much 'mash' the lather with the brush in a downwards direction to pop the bubbles. I do want some bubbles, but too many means the lather dissipates quite quickly on my face...
I've been shaving with a straight for almost two years now, before that I didn't even own a shaving brush, though I had used one for a few months years and years ago, and I only started to use the 'bubble mashing' technique a few weeks ago.

Wife cleaning out house for estate sale. Family laughed at her for wanting and paying them for shaving items. They almost tossed it before she got there. Two vintage Aramis soaps with Tallow, Yardley Vintage soap, and interesting/cool soap dish seen in pic.
I recieved this from Robert today. Perfect timing. I really needed a shave. Beautiful one pass shave. I was also able to shave my girl friends legs. One pass also. The soap i recieved from Bill at the last NJ meet up. Love this stuff. Its HOT as hell here. 11pm and its 87deg in my room. UGH!:dropjaw:

PREP - None
SOAP - Mikes / Pine & Cedarwood
BRUSH - Kimson
RAZOR - Brian Brown / Multi layered Japanese steel in blonde horn
I think i studied this razor for sometime before shaving with it and after doing two passes, i didn't want to put it down, so i did a third pass.
Not only a pleasure to use, but also a pleasure to look at and study the details in the steel and or course, Brian's file work.

Probably the nicest razor I have atm, which is a tough call, but this one really is a thing of beauty.
My photo doesn't come close to showing off Brian's file work and the Japanese white paper steel is very interesting to look at. ( next time i use it, I'll shoot from above to show off the spine )

Mint Julip Facial, Wm. Elliot and Co, VDH Boar, Tabac Shavestick, Aqua Velva Classic, Firehouse Wacky Tacky
My granddaughter was the shave supervisor. She remains steadfastly committed to the notion that Aqua Velva Classic is the only aftershave or cologne that should still be on the market. When I asked her what to do about my mustache, she said, "Shave it all off." When her and I came out of the shave cave, SWMBO says, "You smell really good, kinda cold and fresh" When I told her about my granddaughter's mustache recommendation, she agreed wholeheartedly. I think it's a conspiracy. I will not be swayed.
