Default First shave initial impressioms Muhle R41 newest model

Just got this Muhle R41 in today and took it for a spin using an Astra SP blade and lather courtesy of MWF. It is the first brand spanking new DE that I have bought in many a decade. From reading on the net there seems to be 3 versions of the R41 and I believe this is the latest verion as the top plate is 20mm wide, slightly wider than the previous version by a couple of mms. With the Astra SP it is on the aggressive side but no more so than the New Model vintage Gillette open comb I have been using with the same blade. In other words totally manageable if you watch your angle on the blade, use just the weight of the razor and have a decent lather. Getting the right weight is easy as it has a heavy head and that weight alone will do the job nicely. The shave, 3 passes, was very close and comfortable with just a little sting in places when the Alum block was applied. I think this version is a well built razor that shaves like the dickens and not too scary at all. Yea, I like it.

    Thanks for the review, Bob.

I still haven't done the "requisite" measurements on my beloved R41 to determine if it's new, old or whatever - I just know that I like it. Just ease up a tiny bit more on the pressure and you'll be getting shaves without any alum sting at all.
