DE Recommendations
Hi, I'm looking into using a DE to shave my underarms. I use a straight on my legs but have given up on using it on my underarms without the assistance of another person to help keep the skin taut. Are there certain models and blades that you would recommend for the underarm area in particular?

Try an Edwin Jagger 89 series. They are mild yet effective. I have several straights and de razors, and on days I'm feeling unsure of my abilities, the Edwin Jagger is the one I reach for.

I haven't tried this razor personally, but they have very high reviews.

I think just about any DE would work. Though I wouldn't go with DE's known for their aggressiveness (R41 for example). I liked the Edwin Jagger recommendation.
As for blades - very much like picking one for your face, I would explore a bit. But I think I would be inclined to start with the Red Personna myself.David

I use many vintage no names I find at antique stores. Your big thing will be finding your blade that works well with your underarms. I suggest getting a sample pac and playing around and finding what you like.

Grazor said what I was thinking. Ive used DE's for several years. Ive been looking for a Gillette blue star lady for my girlfriend. There are some on ebay. Just a matter of winning LOL. Missed a couple. Also they are not very lady'ish (I Know that's not a word) but merkur nonadjustable heads are pretty mild in aggressiveness. I love the merkur HD razor. Just the right amount of weight. An very nice knurled handle which helps hold onto the razor when your hands are wet. Good luck an enjoy.

I use a '68 Lady Gillette every morning to shave with. Blue. Don't give a rat's patooty which gender they were marketed to. It's a fantastic razor, and very mild and easily controllable.
If you can get one, I don't think you'll be disappointed.Mike

Ladies and gentlemen,
I restored a Gillette flare tip, from 1965, for my wife. For my younger daughter, I matched the Merkur 15C handle with the Edwin Jagger shave head. Both ladies love their razors. For my older daughter, between two models of the British Knack. Incidentally, the three ladies will have a lifetime supply of quality blades.
Yakitori, without improvising, I suggest an Edwin Jagger for you. It is a fine all around razor and well tempered.
