Thanked: 8New Merkur futur razor Wow
Evening Gents,
Today I received my new chrome Merkur Futur DE Razor. As soon I got in from work and had a cup of tea ( Lady Grey) after hard days graft. I was very keen to get the shave underway using the new tool.
I have been using a E/J 89 DE for the last few weeks which was my first razor after getting rid of the cartridge blades, and that has been going well even getting some BBS shaves.
I did not really expect the Merkur to be that much different. How wrong I was, the shave was soooooooo much better than using the EJ 89. I only had it on a setting of 3 then 2 to get the feel of it and got a BBS shave with very little effort, a really great shave it made my day.

Glad you enjoyed it. What blade did you use?

Thanked: 8For the first shave I thought it only right and proper to use the Merkur Blade. I shall be buying more of those.

Thanked: 1195I've heard good things about the Futur but I was always a little leery of that smooth finish, making grip somewhat problematic. However, I know Catrentshaving has one, and he has reassured me on several occasions that it's not a problem. What's your take on the grip issue?

Thanked: 1079The Futur is a good razor and IMHO has good build quality. Glad you found it easy to use. Congratulations.

Thanked: 20I second Stevie17 in treating yourself. I have owned one for years now, and can't speak highly enough of it. When I just do not feel like straight razoring, I use my Futura and love it. My own beard does not grow heavy enough to justify using Feather blades so I just use Astra's, and love them. If you like the Murkur blades you will love what ever you move to. Murkur seem a little rough compared to others I have used. really as far as De's go I do not think a Futura can be beat

If you are a bit weary........... Rub the hand you hold the razor in, and rub Alum block on those fingers. Works great for me.
