    Default Revisiting the Double Edge

Packing for a short vacation, I had to decide between a double edge (Merkur Progress), and one of my straight razors. I thought for simplicity I would take the Merkur. It has been over a year since I have shaved with the double edge I used for over 9 years. When I moved from the DE to a straight I thought of it as an evolution, an advancement going backward so to speak. Wrong! It was a pleasant (Feather Blades) and quick shave. The only thing lacking was the thrill of using a straight.

I use a DE on occasion and while I do get a great shave with a DE, I usually end up nicking myself, not so with a straight. It must be the term Safety Razor, gives me false promises. Or could it be I usually use my DE when I've been drinking?

Yea, a Muhle R41 DE with Feather blades is my current choice for traveling. That combo will give a straight a run for it's money. I still prefer the act of shaving with a straight but the right DE is a good substitute for me when needed.
