Thread: Persona barber blade

I just recently picked up DE shaving after a 30 or so year absence. I wished I would have never got into cartridge razors. The whole experience from the smells, to the relaxation, and quality of shave: I will be hard pressed to do a cartridge system again.
I have used a Treet silver, a Rapira Stainless, and I put in a Persona Barber blade. The persona 5 pack I got at Sally Beauty Supply and for now I love that blade. It is so smooth with no irritation under my chin and neck. Both the other blades I have tried have given me irritation in those places. Matter of fact, the shave this morning was so great I really didn't want to stop. That is in stark contrast to the Treet blades. I didn't even get finished with my shave and already was feeling the irritation on my entire face. If someone wants the 9 I have left just PM your address. The Rapira blades were smooth for two or three shaves. I flipped the blade over and got one more half way decent shave out of it.

When the persona wears out I have an Astra Superior Platinum blade to try out.

John I recently used a treet blade also. This is a prime example of the YMMV. I actually got decent irritation free shaves from it. If you are interested in swapping for a couple other blades to try I am more than happy to trade ya a few. Either way, glad you came back to wet shaving. It is far better than carts for sure.

Then you will love the Pesonna Med Preps and/or the Lab Blues.

I will try them one more time before my Astra. The Treet blade was the first DE shave I had, so maybe my skin wasn't ready. If not I will hit you up on that offer. On a side note; I spent the first 18 years of my like in Fairborn.

Lince, thanks for the close ups, the Lab Blue's I've seen on some wet shave videos and they are definitely on my need to try list. What difference, if any, between the med prep and blue?

Oh the rabbit hole that that question will take you.
Personally i am of the camp that can tell a difference between the two blades and as much as i would have preferred to like the labs better, alas i don't care for them but like the meds quite a lot.
I'll leave it to others to"explain" the difference between blades. ..

As EO said, that is the subject of MANY threads and "opinions". First, the Med Preps undergo an additional wash (NOT sterilization as some say) to remove any oil or residue. They may or may not be the same otherwise. Like EO, I do notice a difference and only use the Med Preps. They are my top blade. They run $25/100 from Robbins Intsruments. As always with blades, YMMV. Many folks use the Lab Blues as their top blade. The Barbers are a "no go" for me.

I just tried one of the "meds" yesterday. It was a decent irritation free shave. I might be at the point, (in the learning curve), to adjust my G-Slim a step or two up. It's interesting how one little change can bring about such a different quality of shave. I love the scent of my new "Nomad" but it dries out fast on my skin, creating drag. You really have to stick with it. I didn't think it would be such a deal just to make lather consistently. Part of the joys one goes thru when you do "get it".
I'm working up to trying the feathers that came in my sample pack.

Speak of the devil, I just tried my first feather blade this morning. All I can say is wow. Absolutely a great smooth shave. I can see what all the fuss is about now. Don't hesitate just put it in.
