Finally tried a Merkur 37C Slant
I haven't posted in quite a while, so I thought I would this evening. I've been shaving with a straight for a few years now, after first starting traditional shaving with a DE safety razor. I don't know why, but I started pulling my DE's out and using them during the week, and it's been enjoyable. I recently bought a Merkur 37C slant bar and shaved with it this morning, using a Gillette 7 o'clock SuperEdge, and all I can say is..wow. Smooth, close shave. I had been using a Muhle R41 with Feathers in it, and I think I liked the slant better!

Thanked: 1081I was thinking about getting a 37C, read nothing but great reviews. Only have one cheap DE that I use once in a while but it would be nice to have a decent one. You have just persuaded me on my next purchase!

Thanked: 3226Yes, the Merkur slant is a very nice well behaved razor. I can see why you would prefer it over the Muhle R41 which is much less forgiving. At least that has been my experience with those 2 razors.

Thanked: 52+1 on the above: IMO, it's a good razor for a good price. I too have the 37C slant in my rotation and also use a yellow 7 o'clock. It's indeed a good razor and always gives a fine shave. It's got a really good heft.

Thanked: 23Received my Merkur 37c yesterday, and used it with a Feather blade and MWF this morning being very careful due to warnings about the aggressive nature of this razor. Shave was very good. No cut. No weepers. No razor burn. Not the work of the devil. I think it is a good addition to my rotation, and I expect the results to be even better.

I started wet-shaving maybe 3 or 4 years back, and the Slant was my first razor. I have never found it to be overly aggressive. It is a regular part of my rotation, along with my straights.

Bob nailed it. The 37c is as good a shaver IMO as the Muhle 41. An much more forgiving. I have owned an still own several merkurs. They are my pick in DE's next to my vintage gillettes. Paired with a feather blade the shave is very enjoyable for me.
