Thanked: 3795Looking for butterfly door equivalent of a Merkur 38C HD
The only new safety razor I have ever bought was a Merkur 38C HD in around 2007. After I let my wife try it once, I never got it back. That's okay because I hardly ever used it anyway, but it is one of the safety razors I show to people whom I am trying to convince to try this better alternative. Whenever I can find a decent safety razor for under 5 bucks, I buy it and then loan, give, or sell it to the next potential convert.
Anyway, I have found that many people really like the heft of the 38C HD but do not like the means of changing the blades. They prefer the butterfly doors. So...
Can anyone suggest a razor somewhat similar to the 38C HD that has the easy opening butterfly doors?

Thanked: 67One of the better (and more affordable) butterfly-door (TTO) DE razors is the Cadet (several models). They're well made, are reasonably efficient and are cheap.
Look them up. They're available from several stores.

Thanked: 3795Lots of razors open with the doors. I am specifically looking for one comparable in size and heft to the Merkur 38C HD.

The Parker 99R is what you're looking for. Similar look with TTO doors and a nice hefty weight. Nice fit and finish too.
