A while back there was a thread showing hairs under a microscope that had been shaved in different ways. Disposable blades were somewhat uneven cut. Electric razors looked like it had a weed eater taken to it. Straights an DE were evenly cut. I think this is probably the cause of what you are experiencing. Makes sense to me at least. As I too have noticed as my hair re grows it feels more "full".

You're right...............check these pics out. Beard hairs under a scanning electron microscope: razor (left) versus electric shaver (right) - Imgur

The hair on the right looks like a small tree after I have run my bush hog over it. Smashed and thrashed by brute force, rather than the nice, clean cut of the other hair. Guess that explains it!

I noticed the same effect back when I was in the Navy. For a while I used a Braun electric for my daily shave. By the end of the day my stubble felt like 80 grit sandpaper. If I wet shaved, it took a couple of days before the stubble felt as harsh.
That would only apply if you had a one pass shave. Most of us shave up, down and across - and given that a hair is unaware of whether it's a straight SE or DE blade that has cut it, why would there be any difference?
My service is good, fast and cheap. Select any two and discount the third.
