I noticed the same effect back when I was in the Navy. For a while I used a Braun electric for my daily shave. By the end of the day my stubble felt like 80 grit sandpaper. If I wet shaved, it took a couple of days before the stubble felt as harsh.
That would only apply if you had a one pass shave. Most of us shave up, down and across - and given that a hair is unaware of whether it's a straight SE or DE blade that has cut it, why would there be any difference?
