    Default Merkur upgrade?

Hi peoples. I have been using a Merkur 34C with feather blades with good results for several months now, but like a lot of people, am always looking to see if I can find something better. What would some of you recommend for a different razor that wont break the bank? Thanks.

I made that transitition, 34C to 37C. Good move.

Never used a Merkur 34C but the Merkur slant is very good. The other close shaver and relatively inexpensive is the Muhle R41 but it is on the aggressive side to use.

The 34c is one of my favorites. I will agree the 37 slant is a great razor. If you was looking to step away from Merkur an try something else the old gillettes red tip is another great shaver. You would have to go the eBay route to get one though or antique stores. Buying new I would go slant.

You were restricting your search to Merkur?

I would check out the local antique shops if you have an opportunity. It seems like safety razors are easier to come by than the straights. I started out with a Merkur 23C long handle. Right now I'm using a Gillette Slim (adjustable) I recently bought at an antique shop for $6.
I've only used 3 different DE razors, so I would just suggest looking for a used adjustable razor. I haven't used all the setting yet, but I do like being having the choices.
