Thanked: 220Super-Max Blades
I've just discovered a pack of Super-Max Stainless DE blades that I didn't know I had, and don't recall where I got. They're obviously a few years old. I tried one in a 1938 Gillette Tech, and it was an excellent shave. I'm not a big fan of the very sharp blades, like Feather or some Astra's. I would rather use the less aggressive blades, like Derby or Wilkinson Sword, (I tend to get too many 'weepers' otherwise). This being said, I found the Super-Max to be quite similar to the latter of blades. Anyone else familiar with and/or use these blades, and if so, what are your thoughts on them? Although they're probably classed as a "cheaper" blade, I feel they might be underrated, and if I can find them locally I'll definitely get more of them.

Thanked: 351Super Max used to be stocked by Zellers, then Zellers was bought out and converted to Target which conveniently bailed on Canada and left all the stores vacant. I never found them to be particularely smooth myself... typical low cost India made blades in my opinion. Then again, it was all I could get locally for $2 a pack compared to the few packs of Gillettes on the store shelves at over $10 a pack.
They are available, probably from several Canadian resellers, but I have not looked. Brick and mortar sales of DE blades have pretty much ceased in Canada in favor of something with lots of disposable plastic and higher profit margins...... <sigh>
Regards

SuperMax Platinums are one of my favorite blades. They work really well in every razor I have.
As for finding them locally, I don't know the situation in Canada, but the only blades I tend to find locally are store brand/generic, with the exception of German made Wilkinsons.
Good luck to you. I think your best bet is an online dealer. I checked Fendrihans before posting; they do not carry them on their Canaian site.Mike

I don't use them,,, I'm stuck on Sharks & Feathers,,, but I'm happy.
I pick up vintage DE blades all the time,,, if any Super Max blades are found among them,, I'll ship them North to you.

Blade preference cannot be reasoned or predicted very well.
I like blades that most in the wet shaving community loathe, and there are others like me. .Mike

Thanked: 351I couldn't find them for sale in Canada, but a UK dealer had 3 different versions available. Prices are reasonable and when I used them, there was only one kind... perhaps I need to revisit them when I wear out my 30 straight razors!
