Now I will probably have to go through all this "handle stuff" like my friend Obie is doing! I recently got a ATT Colossus R1, which I like very much. The Colossus handle fits my hand very well and I will probably try it on the Mongoose to see how it feels. May also try to get one of those Hempel titanium handles that you guys are raving about!
Handle "experimentation" on the Mongoose is kind of like having more than one SR, shaving brush, soap, strop, etc. There is nothing, IMO, wrong with the handle it ships with; however, since I had a super heavy and large Maggard Stainless handle for another DE, I tried it and liked it better. Then of course along comes Obie with the other Stainless Maggard handle, so I tried it too, and I do like it.

This is a long way of saying if you want to experiment for less money (~$20), you ought to take a peek at the Maggard Stainless handles. I, of course, prefer a heavier handle, YMMV.

Thanks for your advice, Harold! I too like a "heavier handle", so I was going to try my ATT Colossus on it. Do you have a Colossus? Ed

I thought I liked a heavy handle until I tried the Hemple titanium 'wave'. At least with the MG it is really nicely balanced.

If there's a heavier one, I can't imagine. I think it's 150g. I also have the MR5 which is currently on my Mongoose,

Jimmy & Obie, I just bought a Jürgen Hempel Razor Handle Titanium Slim Wave (there are only 2 left after I purchased one). Diameter is 12.5 mm; length 104 mm; weight 40 grams. I bought it from Shave Revolutions. They also have another "wave" model which is thicker, shorter and heavier. Thought that I would try the "Slim" model as it will also fit into my ATT Ink well stand (max diameter of Ink well stand is 12.7 mm). Did I get the right one, Jimmy???

You got the same one I got. It is 'right' for me, you'll have to decide whether it is right for you. Hard not to like IMHO ........

Well Jimmy, I got my Mongoose and Jürgen Hempel Titanium Slim Wave Handle today. I already shaved this morning so I didn't shave with it today, however, I did put 3 different handles on the Mongoose to see how they all felt in my hand. Handles used: original Mongoose handle that came with the razor, Hempel Titanium Slim Wave and my ATT Colossus. There was "no contest"! My ATT Colossus won by a landslide! The Hempel Titanium was too light for the Mongoose head and did not feel balanced at all. The handle that came with the Mongoose was "okay", but I thought that the knurling was too mild. The ATT Colossus felt perfect and well balanced with the heavy Mongoose head. Also I love the knurling on that handle (I had 2 Colossus handles, one on my R1 and one on my S1 and ordered my third one tonight for my Mongoose). Like you said "you have to decide whether it is right for you"!

YMMV (your mileage may vary) is proven yet once more .......... you must have bigger forearms than this old man .........

    Enjoy the Mongoose !
