Thanked: 0Second de razor
I've been using my ejde89 for about two years now and get zero irritation. One thing I've found though is I have to really take a while to get a bb smooth finish. I think it might be time to step up the aggressiveness of my razor, what yall recommend for a second one?
I have been looking at the matador toro mastiff and like it. Budget is under 40

Thanked: 580A vintage Gillette adjustable might fit the bill. You can still pick up a decent one for around $40, and dial up how aggressive you want it to be. The Edwin Jaager are a great razor, have you tried it with a feather? BBS every time with one of them for me.

There are a ton of great DE Gillette's sitting in antique stores, well under $40.00 that just need cleaning.
or,,,,
If your on Ebay,, just set your "followed items" to Vintage Gillette, used Gillette" & monitor at "newly listed" this will give you Gillette's with a BIN under $20.00 fairly constant,,,, but they go fast.

Thanked: 14Under $40 with a little more aggression is best obtained, as said, with a vintage Gilette Adjustable. The Superspeeds are mostly milder than your DE 89. Another option, easily found for less than $40 afloat in the Bay, would be a SE GEM Micromatic. I've seen mixed reviews of the Toro Mastiff

Thanked: 3225Yes, an adjustable is a good DE to have because you can dial in the amount of aggressiveness you can stand for you face sensitivity and shaving skill.
Another DE to consider would be a Merkur slant. It is not really aggressive but just very efficient.

Thanked: 67Actually, the vintage Gillette DE's don't get much more aggressive than the DE89. They're nice razors, but if you want to explore more aggressive razors, there are other options. If you do get a vintage Gillette Adjustable, I'd suggest a Slim over the Fatboy. The Slim just seems to work better for most people.
Another option is a Cadet TTO. They're pretty cheap new, and they are pretty aggressive. Or a Muhle R41, if you want a more aggressive razor. They can be had for $20-30 used on the forums.
