Thanked: 10Fine Superlite Slant
So I bit the bullet and ordered one a few days ago. It will be my first slant and the references to the vintage Bakelite slant that still seems to be getting some love intrigued me. I'll be shaving with it tomorrow.
Has anyone else taken the plunge? I'm aware that it doesn't go so well with my SS razor/brush holder, but I've always appreciated function regardless of form and am looking forward to the maiden voyage.Outside of a dog, a book is a man's best friend. I'm out of that loop and hadn't heard of the Superlite Slant. I collected 'slants', which years ago which back then were known as 'twisted head' razors. I have a number of old Solingen bakelite slants but I confess I've never taken any of them out for a spin. This is an interesting piece and ought to be a good shaver.
The assortment below was a result of the military build up of the third Reich leading up to, and during, WWII. The metal went to weaponry so they found alternative materials to produce razors. At least I think that was the deal.
Be careful how you treat people on your way up, you may meet them again on your way back down.

Thanked: 10Nice collection! I have heard about those, and they seem pretty sought after, which is probably why Fine put theirs out. I loaded an Astra SP up and shaved with it this morning. This is the first time I have not used a straight for at least the first 2 passes in almost 2 months. What a great shave! I have pretty coarse facial hair and this thing sliced through it like a horror movie psycho through a locker room full of cheerleaders. The first 2 passes were almost effortless, and very smooth.
I did a 3rd pass with very minor cleanup due to strange neck hair direction, and was thrilled with how it performed. I did get a couple small nicks since I automatically wanted to compensate for the lightness of the razor, which is unnecessary.
It is well made, with a metal threaded post on the head and metal female threaded insert in the handle, so it won't be wearing out any time soon. If you're looking for something elegant in appearance to put next to your ATT, Merkur, Mongoose, or what have you, you will be disappointed. The pictures do it justice, and it looks more like something you would give your son to play with than a tool you would use to remove facial hair. Having said that, I always appreciate function regardless of form, and this functions exceptionally well. It has earned a place next to any other razor I will ever own.
I'm still in the learning process with my straight razor and still love learning this art, but I'll be doing any necessary cleanup with the Fine from now on. Absolutely worth the price.Outside of a dog, a book is a man's best friend. Inside of a dog it's too dark to read. -Groucho Marx

Thanked: 3227No experience with the Fine Superlite Slant but I really enjoy my Merkur slant. If the Merkur is any example of the breed then slants are very good DEs in general. Glad you are enjoying tours.

Thanked: 10You have no idea how long I've been waiting to hear those words
And great choice in stores. I've been hooked on Maggard's since my first order. It was 2 samples of soap, and they had it in the mail less than an hour after I ordered it. No idea how they do it, but amazing service every time.Outside of a dog, a book is a man's best friend. Inside of a dog it's too dark to read. -Groucho Marx
