Default Wet shaving on the go

    Dear gents;

This week my boss finally approved my vacations for this year. I will be taking the kids to central Mexico in mid july.

Therefore, i started practicing. My lady gave me a bag, perfect for the shaving stuff. So we went to Fajardo to take our sailboat out to the spanish virgin islands.

I took: proraso red preshave; shannon's silk pillamas tallow soap; a pure badger brush; merkur 41C 1904; kai blade; brut aftershave; bumbury balm.

The wind was blowing in excess of 30 knots, so we stayed all weekend safely in Marina Puerto Chico.

Saturday morning came about and i finally had the opportunity to shave with a small mirror in my hand. Although i was not in the desert, didnt shave with a bowie knife and i am not Clint Eastwood, it was like a dream come true. I have been watching too many westerns lately. Jajaja.

The save was amazing. It was done in the middle of a Pelican's breakfast buffet. They were diving from 50 feet in the air all around me, sitting in the cockpit of my boat.

A couple of weeks ago i posted a thread about wet shaving and traveling. Some of the guys said that they never brought anything irreplaceable with them. So i brought my Merkur 41C.

I had a really nice surprise. I shaved with it a few times, but never with a kai blade. Keeping up with Meles' approach not to quit anything too soon, i kept it in the rotation. I still think that it is too mild for me, and that you almost dont feel the balde at all. So i did a five pass shave. North to south. South to north, east to west, west to east and a diagonal. What a surprise. It was an amazing 10 hours bbs. No weepers. No irritation. I still dont like the fact that some light pressure has to be used, but that is a preference of mine. The fact remains the same: it is a good shaver.

The moral of the thing is that everything is relative. The combinations are endless. And most importantly: technique is supreme.

    Best for all,

    Pepe Peña

I travel a lot and haven't used a cartridge razor for over two years. It feels good to have a nice leisurely shave on the road. Have fun!

Thanks for sharing your shaving adventure story. Looks like you had a wonderful weekend trip in the sailboat. Your pictures have me looking forward to spring arriving up here in the northern hemisphere.

I typically just don't shave on vacation, but do have a travel razor pouch loaded up just in case I change my mind.
Your pictures are making me jealous...I need some time off!

Shaving while traveling is a comforting routine. Some of my most enjoyable shaves ever were while I was deployed in Afghanistan. Nothing quite like enjoying a shave in the morning breeze watching the sun come up. The routine was just as enjoyable as the shave.

I would warm up a canteen cup of water and make instant coffee. Then warm up a second canteen cup of water for my shave. I would let my brush sit in the water while it was warming, then lather up with Musgo Real. I would sit on my little camping chair hold one of my wife's makeup mirrors and just enjoy the shave. After, I would rinse my face with a bottle of water, finish my coffee and have a few moments of silence before getting back to the war.

No shaves since have ever compared to those enjoyable moments taking a break from the mayhem.

Thats why those kind of shaves are immortalized in western movies! :-)

    Aloha!

    Great thread!

As you may know, I recently started a thread about traveling with my straight razor. I've been traveling with a DE for decades. Believe it or not, I used to wrap up my shaving brush in a dry wash cloth for travel. I never thought about using a large Pill bottle drilled with holes for the brush while traveling with it. So that's a great tip I got from this Forum.

Love the shot of your shaving gear on the beach. I should do that in Honolulu the next time I'm at Ala Moana park. Heck, i should shave on the beach and video that for Youtube.

    Thanks for sharing.

    Mahalo!
