Thread: Silver Hawk SE razor that uses Feather A.C. blades

Got in the Silver Hawk Razor that uses the single edge Feather (and similar ie KAI Captain, Kaisori, etc) Artist Club blades. lathered up and gave it a go. VERY fast shaving. Smooth shave with a Feather Pro blade that has been used 2 times before with my Feather DX razor. However, it simply glided along my face like silk. I noticed that I can substitute a different handle on this razor, like one from my earlier Gillette 3 piece razors. I found this at Amazon Link: http://tinyurl.com/ybefo285

It is a 3 piece razor that you must screw from the top plates (2). Blade fits in there very nice and tightens down very nice. Very light weight being made of aluminum. The brass handle of the older Gillette gave it a bit more heft. It will never rust, but do not be fooled, aluminum can corrode so be careful in storage and cleaning. Also aluminum is more sensitive to getting dinned. Keep it from dropping into your sink.







I was truly surprised how fast I was able to shave with this razor using Feather Artistry Club Pro razor blades, given their propensity to giving nicks and cuts since they are so sharp. It truly works a lot like my old Schick injector razor.... just a lot wider.

It seems like everyone and their Uncle is making an SE or DE razor these days.

There was/is talk about an aluminum version of the Mongoose calling it the Alumigoose. This is an all aluminum razor, so might be quite similar..?? One thing I would tell the makers on this razor, is that they would do well to pay a bit more attention to the threads. Yes, they tighten up fine on the head, but are pretty loose for tolerance. I worked at Boeing in Seattle years ago as a drill press operator and did thousands of thread in drill and tap operations. I don't know (yet) what the pitch is on this thread, but could stand a bit of improvement. I must add, though, that the Gillette 3 piece I took the brass handle from had similar "loose" threads.

One other thing, is the Feather blade. I had used this 2 times before in my Feather razor, a non-folding. I have both the DX and SS and either one will give me a nice shave, but I felt a lot more tugging shaving with the grain than I did with the Silver Hawk. O the Feather DX I would take small strokes, and get down the side of my face from top of ear to jaw line, and was not nearly as comfortable as the Feather SoftGuard blades. However with the Silver Hawk, it was nearly tug free, and I could take a swipe from the top of around my ear all the way down to the jaw line in a quick manner. Lips and chin were no issues with the Silver Hawk either and the one area that gives me the most trouble with straight razors, including the Feather non or folding razors is on my lower lip. The Silver Hawk moved from side to side pretty neatly for a change, which I only experience using one of my vintage Gillette razors or my Merkur Futur.

Shaved last night and this morning still pretty clean and 100% irritation free.

i got one of these when they first came out i think it is a very nice razor for a smooth shave just like my gem featherlight these are the two i use if i feeling a bit lazey for my straight razor
