It's primary market focus is as a luxury item. When you delve into luxury items price vs practicality go out the window. It's strictly what the market will bear and the manufacturer can getaway with.

That's why folks plunk down over 7 grand for a Rolex Diver which is basically a good 4 grand watch.

I hate to hijack the thread or speak heresy, but that’s the way I feel about my Mongoose, but of course you have a choice of blades. Anyway, when 5 shaves per week were SR shaves, it was a nice alternative when I wanted to spend less time and give my face a rest. However, I’ve found that with 5 of 7 being DE, most, with the right blade are as close or closer than my very pretty Mongoose.

I have the Mongoose. It was my go to shaver for quite a while. It's a bit on the aggressive side but gives a very good shave.

The issue is they keep making incremental improvements in these things and each new crop ups the antie a tad more. Right now with the right DE and blade you can pretty much equal a straight shave.
