It's primary market focus is as a luxury item. When you delve into luxury items price vs practicality go out the window. It's strictly what the market will bear and the manufacturer can getaway with.

I hate to hijack the thread or speak heresy, but that’s the way I feel about my Mongoose, but of course you have a choice of blades. Anyway, when 5 shaves per week were SR shaves, it was a nice alternative when I wanted to spend less time and give my face a rest. However, I’ve found that with 5 of 7 being DE, most, with the right blade are as close or closer than my very pretty Mongoose.

I have the Mongoose. It was my go to shaver for quite a while. It's a bit on the aggressive side but gives a very good shave.
The issue is they keep making incremental improvements in these things and each new crop ups the antie a tad more. Right now with the right DE and blade you can pretty much equal a straight shave. No matter how many men you kill you can't kill your successor-Emperor Nero
