Aftermarket Handles
So I ordered up a new R41 head for my travel kit over at Maggard. For some weird reason, probably because it was under 20 bucks, I picked up a spare handle. I’m serious when I say I’m not 100% sure why. I guess I was hoping it would be a little heavier than my other handles - ideally making for a more comfortable/easier shave.
This is what it looked like on the web site.
Well it came in today and boy was I surprised. Unpacking it from the box, You could tell right away that it was a lot heavier! When I unwrapped it, it looked huge!! I put it on the new R41 head and stared in awe... then I took this picture to show you guys!
Look at the thing!! It’s a behemoth!!
I shaved with it today and let me tell you, that handle felt great!! Looks pretty cool too!
I can feel a new acquisition disorder coming on.Last edited by earcutter; 08-24-2018 at 01:42 AM.

I think i had one of those too. I bought a bunch of handles from them. Nice stuff really. And lots of choices. Glad that it bei g a bit shorter didnt bother you. I always held my DE's by the tip of the handle. Using the weight of the razor only in that way. Worked for me.
It's just Sharpening, right?

It’s actually the perfect size for me Jerry. At least it felt perfect to me today.
I’ve never held it at the tip as you describe. I think I’d be too afraid of it jumping out of my hands. But I could see how it could be effective.
Either way, I got to get off this DE kick. I’ve got straights that are starting to complain lol! But man... this handle is comfortable to handle!!David

I got curious to see exactly how much heavier the new blade razor was... it just feels so much more, well, substantial! So I took out my little crack scale, I mean weed scale. I mean spice scale!! Spice scale! S. P. I. C. E. Scale. Arg darn auto correct!
It’s almost exactly double the weight! Nice.

I can feel your feelings.
Good bad or indifferent and not making judgement. But if I was in your shoes I would be having a lathe/tool acquisition disorder.
I can see myself spending not just $200 and not just $400 but maybe $800 and more not including time.
To save buying 10 $19 handles to see which one I like best.

Better run away now. They sell these high end handles made of titanium which go for almost $200 each.

Update:
I’ve shaved a couple times with this bad boy! It is a totally different experience! You need apply zero pressure! The weight does all the work.
And it just feels cool in the hand! Not as cool as a straight, but it’s as close as anything is going to get.
I’m not going to say I’m no longer going to use my rose gold handle, but it’s got competition. Actually, they both do. It’s back to straights for a wile but - what a pleasure.David
