    Default Merkur MK34C

While traveling, I lost my Rockwell so based on recommendations here I bought a Merkur. What a difference! I effortlessly get a bbs shave with no cuts or nicks. I just love this razor.

That Merkur is a good basic DE. They do a find job making them but if i remember right they are cheap metal chrome plated. Nothing wrong with this, just dont expect it to last long enough to pass down thru the generations.

Like all but one of the current Rockwell line of razors, only the 6S is made of all stainless steel, the Merkur is made of a metal alloy/zamak/pot metal/die cast zinc which is then plated. Works perfectly well so long as you are not hard on your razors and do something like drop them. If the plating becomes chipped and the underlying metal is exposed to water that metal will deteriorate.

The Merkur 34C has a reputation as a mild razor. Congrats, sounds like it all worked out very well for you in the end.
