That is the question. Most of the machine work was done in Switzerland and he personally took each one apart and reassembled it himself.

I was wondering what ever became of that. I thought the prototypes and r and d that went into it were impressive. looking forward to seeing it.

Thanked: 315As long as it took, hopefully he got everything dialed in. Better than a rushed product that disappoints. I'm sure the toggle fans are looking forward to getting one. Looks great in the pictures.

All other things being equal, what makes this razor perform so much better?

Thanked: 1083Thank you for the review.
So this is your goldilocks DE? It would be interesting to hear your views with different DEs, I personally like mild safety razors with very sharp blades like Kai and Feather.
Yes 500 big ones is quite a bit of dough but custom straights can go way past that and a NOS original toggle would fetch the same no doubt.
Scrap that, you got yourself a bargain, just found this :dropjaw

Thanked: 3228If you can live without the like new condition with box, papers and original blades they are quite a bit less. I got a good user condition toggle for less than $100.00 a few years ago. It shaves like my Gillette Fat Boy with the only difference to me being the toggle mechanism.

I have too many DE's to mention them all here but just off the top of my head.....Mercur 34c, R-41(original),mercur(some fancy thing they discontinued a few years ago, Gillette fatboy, one blade, Feather DS-2, above the tie, Timeless, Mongoose, standard, Rockwell model T, some others.
This beats them all. The closest is the Rockwell which is probably a bargain at it's price. I'm just not crazy about it's mechanism. It's very stiff, querky and imprecise but otherwise shaves great.
I've never seen a Gillette Toggle in person but considering how my Fatboy shaves the Janus is far superior in every way (to the fatboy) no matter the blade used.
By the way at 36 hours after the shave my stubble is exactly as it would be if I had used a Straight. No matter how many men you kill you can't kill your successor-Emperor Nero
