    Default Gillette Travel Razor

I picked this travel razor up today in the case with an 2 pack of Super Blue blades; 1 still in the wrapper, 1 in the razor.

It has a J1 date code which I guess is.from early in 1964.

I haven't found anything saying otherwise about the travel razors. If anyone knows anything more than that I would love to hear more. Thanks

I have all the DE Gillette Razors of my birth quarter including the travel razor in the leather case like yours. Just another part of my old RAD. They are cool little razors and not difficult to use. I find the small handle, not a big deal to use. It's like choking up on a bat! I also have a German set. No idea on the date but...

That is basically a Gillette Tech head paired with a stubby handle to make for a compact travel kit. I believe the Gillette Tech head, there are several versions of it iirc, was in production for a long time. The Gillette Tech head was well liked regardless of the what handle was attached. There was also a version of the travel razor that had the same head but a 2 piece handle that you could screw together for a long handle. The 2 pieces fit one inside the other so it took up no more space than the stubby handle in a travel kit.

Give it a cleaning, stick a new production blade in it and take it for a spin. You just may like it.

This is a 4 piece Gillette Travel Tech that I have.

Nice score. I am not a DEvuser but do appreciate complete little kits like that.

My German set (on the right) has the two piece handle that fits inside each other for storage. It has no date code but only says Germany on it.

The handle would be too short for me, as I generally opt for medium-long to long and hefty razors.

Oh yeah, I almost forgot about this thread. You're right, the handle is a little short but it doesn't present a problem for me. Not that I have little girl hands but I'm not ham-fisted either. It performed as good as any non adjustable Gillette would be expected to I think. It's not a perfect solution but it is a real razor that is very, very compact so if space was at a premium you wouldn't have to sacrifice much...here at least. Now, premium soap and a scuttle and brush is another matter. I guess you can't have everything. If you did have everything, where would you put it?
