It would be useful to have one in the drawer for if I cut my hand or hurt my wrist etc and stropping a straight would be difficult.
I did a number on my hands in the workshop earlier this year and was unable to use a straight for the better part of six weeks. Having a safety razor on hand was a godsend. I still prefer straights and normally only use a DE on occasion just to mix things up a bit, but highly recommend having at least one DE on hand for exactly those kinds of situations you mention.

It was in original condition, faded red, well-worn, but nice.
This was and still is my favorite combination; beautiful, original, and worn.

If you find it so convenient that you would give up your straights, then my guess is your not that committed. Most of us have safety’s for use, but use our straights. It’s just another tool.

I only use a DE when I am on pain meds.

No, it's just another chapter in your shaving life. For many years I used an electric and for many years I used a cartridge and then for many years I used a DE. For the past 20+ years I have used a straight and still do on and off but after the heart attack it became not advisable to use straight while on blood thinners for over a year. During that time I played around with different DEs and blades and found I could get shaves equal to a straight.

Who knows, maybe I will go back to straight use as the primary method some day.

In the end it's all just a tool unless you make a hobby out of it and they come and go for everyone.

As TC said... It's just another tool.
I got into straights and told myself I would not pick up any other style of razor for a few years. This was to help me to learn the straight. I either had good shaves or good enough shaves with a little pain. But put everything else away.

I then wanted to try the Kamisori so I got a couple of them and found it too just just takes a little practice. No biggie. Then I found my hands not wanting to function properly. Holding a Stright without having a death grip on it was not working out for me. I actually broke a set of scales. They were old and thin but the grip was just not what needs to be. So I picked up the injectors, SE, DE razors I've collected. This year has been mainly other than Straights as I found my ability to get a good shave with them lacking. I've bought a few new ones too. I still toss in a Straight now and then to keep up the muscle memory but only on those days when my hands are feeling good. I'm at about 50/50 with my hands lately with the meds I'm taking so things are getting better and I'm holding off on surgery.

So, Sure, Have other razors. AFTER you Master the Straight. Nothing wrong with it. At times it may be necessary as we all have found out.
But don't ever put the straights away!

We may have to send TC out to find ya.
    It's just Sharpening, right?

Are they suggesting the blades are compostable?

I just can't wrap my head around people who buy into this sort of stuff. The company selling it I totally get, they're probably making a killing selling cardboard razors. But like you said, one steel/aluminum DE safety razor? Completely recyclable. DE razor blades for life? Completely recyclable. Disposability is stupid.
