    Hello all,

I am trying to clean up some of my Safety Razor stuff. One item that I like is this box but I want to make it a bit better by removing the scratches if possible. So, I need to know what material this is made from.

Solid nickel silver, nickel silver plated, silver plated or?

    Let me know please.

Any markings anywhere that would give a clue?

None that I can find. I was hoping for 92.5 but then I do have ridiculous hopes.

If the box is lined you can try a deep scratch where it will not be seen. That way you can see if it is plate. I guess you already tested with a magnet to see if there is a base metal. If you or someone you know has a friend in jewelry business there might be able to help.

They are plated over brass, so be very careful with how aggressively you polish.

Impossible to say in the photo. it could be polished stainless or aluminum or chrome or nickel plated brass. Of course aluminum would be lighter unless it was caste. A little metal polish and solid metal will reveal some tarnish. Chrome or nickel plate wouldn't.

I put it on a buffer with some metal polish, gently & briefly, and no tarnish and so far no brass. Just a bunch of clean little scratches.
I am going to call it good and leave it alone.
