Thanked: 369DE Razor Identification
This razor looks like a Gillette old type single ring. There is no Gillette logo on the baseplate which from my research is not unusual for some years of manufacture, and there is no serial number either. What is unusual is there is a country of manufacture stamp, “Made in USA” within an oval cartouche that I’ve not seen on other Gillette old type razors.
I’ve presented this on another forum, and one opinion is that this is not a Gillette product. I’m presenting it here to see if anyone has a different opinion.Last edited by honedright; 02-07-2024 at 03:48 PM.

You got me
That logo is not Gillette but the handle could be along with the top cap. Its not unusual for someone to copy a Gillette.
Good luck in your search. Maybe some day you might find that logo on something. It's just Sharpening, right?

Thanked: 369So, I found this logo stamped Gillette photo online (the gold tone) and noticed the similarity with mine as to the country of origin stamp. Similar font and style except for the cartouche thing. Otherwise I’d guess they were from the same manufacturer at different dates of production.

It could be the pictures but there is a differnce from the top to the bottom.
Could someone have "cleaned/restored" and remove other things?

Thanked: 369I suppose anything is possible. The baseplate may have been switched out, etc. The prevailing theory seems to be that the razor is a clone. That’s fine as long as it does what it’s supposed to do. This is my first purchase of an “Old type” safety razor and I paid little for it so no loss. The seller disclosed that it might be a “copy” of a Gillette single ring and I purchased it anyway thinking that just maybe I was getting something “special.” I haven’t received it yet, but as far as I can tell it is in pretty good condition with no hairline cracks, dings, etc. Worst case scenario is that the razor is junk, but I learned a ton about Gillette old type razors.

I meant the coloring is differen between the top and bottom of the baseplate in the picture. It may be the picture but someone could have wire brushed the upper part and removed some markings. The lower teeth also look sharper at the edges and the base.
Just looking at the pictures and thinking out loud.
Let us know when it arrives.
