Those Mach3, like pictured, were known as
GRAB, YANK, & PULL, and a slimy coating from the glide strip. I believe it was some kind of numbing agent, cause a couple hours later I was wondering if I'd shaved with a broken beer bottle, and I was coming down with the chicken poxs. I shaved off a 1k hone and pasted leather belt for many years, and never had that feeling since. Even better since learning about the various hones made for producing proper shaving edges.Mike

I can’t shave the top of my head with a DE.
The straight is the way to go !

I will use a DE now and then. But the cartridge razor? No. I remember how bad that was. Once I started using a single edge, it was game over. I haven’t had that chapped, half-assed shave feeling since. And besides, those blades are expensive for what they are. No, I haven’t been back there since I left.

The one that kills me is the cartridge razor commercial where they show the guy shave then he rinses his face and it says " the best a man can get," and he's stroking his face but he still has a 5:00 shadow....
NOOOO!!! The best a man can get is no stubble and a smooth face.Iron by iron is sharpened, And a man sharpens the face of his friend. PR 27:17

There’s some outfit on FB that is hocking some “total package” of straight razor kit. Of course the guy in the ad has a full beard, as if those two things are compatible. But they also demonstrate what I assume is the “proper” stropping technique of an edge forward stroke. And the brush? Well, my cats tail looks like a better option.

Thanked: 14Interesting - yes I've revisited the carts a couple times just for giggles, and to see if there was an acceptable model for airline travel. Like others, the clogging was still there, and I tried a new design from Feather I think that was an expensive fail for closeness or efficiency. I've done it maybe once every three or four years, never even tempted to return to them on a regular basis. Since my air travel has virtually halted there's no reason to even try anymore.

Clogging was a problem for me, too, but the real problem was me, buying into the Great Lie, that says more blades is better. Single blade throwaways hardly clog at all. The Kai Gold-S all metal single blade disposable is pretty good. Difficult to find outside of Japan, though. I bought mine at 7-11 at most ports I went to in Japan. The head doesn't swivel, either, so you can control the angle somewhat. It does bend, so you can customize. There are other single blade disposables that gitter done without cloggery. With multiblades you can only shave every day, use a very slick lather, and rinse often. If I went two or more days without shaving, my Mack 3 was gonna clog, period. I didn't stay with those very long. I started shaving with a Gillette Super Adjustable and Personna 74 blades, later on the Gillette Super Stainless "Spoiler" blades. I was back on adjustable DE when I bought my first straight razor. Clogged DE? It happens. Take out the blade and everything cleans up nicely.

Only used a disposable once and it was a terrible experience. I was a electric guy, (it was unpleasant too, so I only shaved once a week). Now I switch between my collection of straights, DEs, SEs and injectors. All give excellent shaves and keep a otherwise boring task interesting (not to mention the variety of different soaps and scents!)

DE, SE, Shavette, Injectors, Straights... Thay all get rotated through. I like the variety. But to pick up a blue plastic razor? I think not. Id have to go buy one first as I havent had any in my house in years.
It's just Sharpening, right?
