Which DE?
I'm looking for razor to shave my head with and I like the idea of using a DE vs straight. I love vintage and was thinking that maybe there is a gold standard you guys might point me towards (ie - Gillette XXX??) that I could go hunting for. If this isn't reasonable then is there a new model worth considering? Merkur maybe?
I really have very little DE knowledge so any info will be helpful and greatly appreciated.
Thanks!

For head shaving we are getting into an area that I have absolutely no knowledge of. That said when I used to shave with a DE my mainstay was the Merkur 37C slant and then later the Merkur 39C long handled slant. For a vintage Gillette I lean towards the British Aristocrat or maybe the HD Rocket. Just my personal preferences. For head shaving I'm thinking a Gillette adjustable might be more desirable or maybe a Merkur Vision.
Be careful how you treat people on your way up, you may meet them again on your way back down.

I knew the head blade was going to come up and apparently for good reason. I'm kind of hoping to get away from buying those damn cartridges once and for all. Thanks for the input though.
Thanks to Jimmy too for your suggestions.

i am another who has never shaved my head so take my advice for what it is. i have used a Gillette superspeed, slim adjustable, fatboy and a schick injector. if i were to recommend one for the head i would say the Slim adjustable because of the weight and the adjustability. it really does make a difference from 1-9 which i would think would work well for the head. the injector is great but would be a bit too aggressive for the head, the superspeed is nice but not aggressive enough for me. the fatboy is a bit heavier, though i do like it for my face the rare time that i don't use the straight razor.
not to talk about other forums but B&B (though i haven't been over there for a long time now) has a lot of DE enthusiasts that might have some great imput also.

Thanked: 22Dave
I should think you'd want something fairly mild. If that's the case I would recommend a flairtip Superspeed or a Tech.

I would vote for a SS - I have a small collection and find some are milder than others. My 54 seems the mildest.

At one time or another, I have tried just about everthing to shave my head -- DE, straight, Headblade, GEM and Injector razor. I prefer the Headblade. However, since you are wanting to avoid cartridges I would recommend a razor with a longer handle -- 38C (Merkur long-handled HD) or a Schick Injector. I would recommend a Schick J model or N model as possible options for an injector.
