Does anyone happen to know if the Rolls replacement blades which occasionally come up on eBay, fit all the models, or are specific to one, say the Imperial No.2 or the Viscount?

    Blackpool,
Yes, all the blades are the same...just might have to hone them up a bit. I have bought some extra and now have a great 7 day set that I use all the time.

I did pull one blade and give it a few passes on a norton and that was about all it took- Not worrying about breaking it on the RR strop but its sharper.
I do think the RR as is using its hones and strop produce more pulling than any well honed and cared for str8 I own. RR was a bit of a rage back in its day for some good reason so maybe we are just doing it wrong.

Necro-post heads-up on the issue of the hone/strop not performing. I read the instructions AFTER I carefully cleaned and lubed my new-but-gummed-up old Rolls. Using a Q-Tip and mineral oil I got the old grease out of the rolling mechanism, wiped everything down clean and regreased the roller teeth on each side. Then I wiped the blade-holder stud with mineral oil and (mistake) the roller-bushing that the blade stud rides on.

Instructions say "DON'T" lubricate the roller bushing or it may no longer develop enough friction to keep the blade pushed down tight against the hone and strop when rolling. Although mine continued to maintain pressure I went back with contact cleaner and did my best to work the oil out of the bushing. It still slaps, hones and strops fine but a lubed bushing may negate the ability of the unit to properly hone and strop.

I can see where cleaning and lubing improperly could cause a total failure of the sharpening process.

Nope, that's actually not entirely true. I have an Imperial #1 and that blade doesn't fit on any of the other Rolls sets. It's the oldest Rolls set I have, and they may have changed the anchoring mechanism later.

How would I replace a worn out hone? Is the only option salvave one from another rolls?

That probably is the easiest way to do it, unless you have a way to cut hones.

I've bought a bunch of them for cannibalizing parts to make intact sets. Sometimes you can find them at flea markets and antique stores for cheap.
