    Default What does it mean?

I'm looking into buying my first de for travel purposes. Merkur makes two travel de's and one is "open-comb." What does that mean? They say on classicshaving.com that it's better for people with heavy beards, which I have.

"Open Comb" means that the razor has curved "teeth", like a rake, that stick out from the bottom, instead of a solid safety bar beneath the blade. I've never used one, but people say that kind of arrange the thicker hair into a better shape for shaving.

I have one of both with I bought for traveling. I don't think there is a huge amount of difference, but the open comb does feel better for me. I also think it looks more appealing.

Me too, on all counts. In theory, it also leaves a bit of shaving cream for the blade to reach also, making a smoother shave.

Go the open comb, they're the best of the DE razors. Or travel with a straight.

    Default What does it

    Bulldog,

Either one of those two travel razors will work just fine. I have a tough beard, and although I debated which of the two to buy, open or closed comb, I bought the closed comb. As others have said, there does not seem to be that much of a difference between the two.

    Regards,

    Obie
