Gillette Fatboy settings
Happy holidays!
I've been shaving with a Fatboy since August. I shave with it set to 3. I notice that it goes all the way to 9. When is it ever necessary to go past 3? Most times if I use 4, I nick myself. Is it a matter of how this the beard is?
Thanks,
Brandon

9 is the most agressive (thick beard) setting while going down to 1 is for the least agressive usage.

I use setting 5. You just need to experiment to get the most comfortable and closest shave which can vary depending on how many days it's been since you last shaved.
No matter how many men you kill you can't kill your successor-Emperor Nero

Yep adjustables are meant to try and cover multiple variables in shaving like beard thickness and skin sensitivity.
As for the extreme setting of 9 some have course or thick beards some like aggressive razors. Others like to do thier first pass with a agressive setting like 9 then dial it down each following pass to get the closest shave.
Also different razors give different results for different faces. I for one shave with the fatboy on 9 but I can only go up to 5 on the gillette slim :-/

I have a SS adjustable that I've used at 3. Only used it twice, so I never played too much. I liked 3, because it was like my non adjustable SS - I could get a quick, presentable shave without worrying about nicking myself or getting any weepers. But the nice part is that I can adjust to more aggressive should I want to or not need to take a quick shave. Then again, if I have more time, I use a straight...

Yeah I have only been using the Fatboy because my straight has been dull for awhile. It's a great alternative, indeed.

Thanked: 124My fatboy was on three. Three is good. I was able to get BBS in a two pass shave with three. Fatboys are good too.

Yeah, I too think the "3" dial is perfectly fine for a close shave. That setting is about equivalent to a good non-adjustable Super Speed, which is a great shave.
With most blades like Derbys and IPs, I generally dialed at 6. But I used to dial down to "2" when using Feather blades. This trick worked well for me, and allowed me to get BBS shaves with the Feather, offsetting my too-heavy hand from leading to irritation when using them. Blades lasted longer, too.
