Thanked: 1care for DE after shave
Hey I recently came into a nice little DE (one of the cheaper Edwin Jaggers...with the faux ivory handle), figured I'd give it a try. My face is very irritated but also smooth.
Wondering: once the shaves done, what sort of upkeep does a DE need? Should it be taken apart and dried? Can it just sit there?
Thanks!

All I do with mine is rinse all the soap and crud out of it, flick it a couple of times to get as much water out as I can and then leave it to dry in its plastic box with the top open. Once its dry I shut the top.
Seems to work absolutely fine, and no ill effects to the razor!
Good luck!

BenjaminBarker,
When I disassemble my Merkur to change the blade every 1-2 weeks, I soak the razor in a bath of warm water and shampoo, then use a soft toothbrush or tea towel to remove any remaining soap scum/crud, rinse with clear water and dry it with a towel.
This maintenance makes my razor look brand new..."Age is an issue of mind over matter. If you don't mind, it doesn't matter." Mark Twain

I shave mainly with a straight but when I use my DE I rinse it well to get all the soap and hair out then take it apart and dry it all then reassemble. I dry mine since it doesn't get used a lot.
