Default What is the sound of one hand shaving?

I finally have a shave from my super speed that is close, comfortable, and while not BBS is fairly darn close. It really has been a great couple of weeks working with this. The first couple of shaves left my neck a bloody mess as I was slowly working towards that baby smooth feel and I tried all manor of different things to end the bleeding and get a smooth shave.

Then one morning I had a moment of zen, "Focus only on good technique and let the results take care of themselves!"

Almost instantly my whole experience improved. I had better lather, less irritation, less nics, closer shaves, and perhaps the best result of all, Girlfriend Approved Smoothness! (So much so that she is thinking of trying a DE as well). It's funny that ignoring the thing I was trying to achieve was the way to get it, but that seems to be the paradox of many a zen koan.

Student: Master, how long will I have to train to learn your art?
    Master: Ten years.
Student: But Master, I will train twice as hard as any other student!
Master: Oh? In that case, Twenty years.

Once again, Thanks to all of you here and the wealth of information you've provided.

    Congrats!

And dont be tempted to increase pressure if you're not quite there with the results. Down that road lies pain and bloodshed! Just let the blade do the work and focus on correct technique.

Good luck and keep us posted!

Using a DE is in many ways similar to stropping, a seemingly simple thing. After all it's just a strop and you just go back and forth with it and the DE is a SAFETY RAZOR you just lather up and manipulate it on your face right?

A lot more than meets the eye and both take practice and finesse.

I used DE/SE handles n blades for 2yrs b4 giving myself a str8 razor challenge and so far so great..when I was using my de/se blades I was palm stropping then to slightly dull the blades so they would be a but smoother and last a bit longer..in my case..I only got 2 full uses and 5 passes to get BBS..but since moving to str8 razor..changed things up a bit..in a good way of course..but it DE/SE blades work for you..then go for it!!..(no 2 faces r alike)
