    Default Disposal of used blades

    Gentlemen:

I have what our good friend Thebigspendur refers to as a "blade bank" for disposing used blades. This coffin of sorts has a slot on top for disposing the blades. Various shaving sites sell it at around $1. I would say it probably holds about 100 used blades, more possibly.

In previous years I also have deposited the used blades in an empty loose tea can and crimped the lid before disposing.

    Regards,
    Obie

Duh. I never heard of such a thing. I have been throwing the blades away because I feared someone would get hurt just throwing them in the recycling bin.

I just never connected the dots and I feel kind of dumb...

Well today I went out and looked for a suitable tin to make a blade bank. I had specific ideas in mind with relation to size and style of tin, as well as contents. I had to modify my thoughts on size due to issues with style. Size: 440ml changed to 1000ml

Style: Non rip top lid, had to be an older style, sealed tin.

Contents: All liquid, no solids...Tomato Soup was selected.

I drilled a .25" hole in the base of the can, taped over it and turned it over. Using a dremel, I cut a slot in the top of the can. I skimped on the artwork side of things and just used the computer to generate what I had in mind. I imagine that this blade bank will last some time given its size. I would opt for a smaller tin if I could find one.

Or you could go WWII retro and get one of those gllass blade sharpeners...They are shaped like a half of a drinking glass in a "U". When the blade dulls you just rub it on the glass to resharpen...Viola, the ultimate recycle! One pack will last years.....

That's what the straights are for. DE is for those days when quick and simple are required . Good idea though. I haven't seen a razor blade sharpener such as you mentioned. Any pictures?

Yes, I reckon it will take some years to fill (probably last the rest of my life), so I'll have to alternate the covers a few times as I get bored with them.
I look forward to seeing what you come up wih too.

I'd pass on the blade sharpening then! Cheap enough to not bother.
