Thread: how often do you replace your blade?

this is out of curiosity, but how often do you change the blade? when do you know the blade should meet its end ?

any thoughts....?

When the blade starts to tug in the least, or doesn't deliver a satisfying shave it's done. This varies a bit between manufacturers, but 4-6 shaves is about average. I've had some that were kicked out after the first pass because of bad machining.

Because my hair is fairly fine I can get 10 to 12 shaves out of a blade so it can last me almost a month since I shave every other day.

I find 4 shaves is the max depending on the blade. Yea they will still shave after that but the result ain't so hot.

+1, although sometimes that 4th shave can be a little rough, depending on the blade of course.

Gentlemen:

For me, three is the magic number. Experience has taught me that after the third shave the blade begins to lose its edge. I use the Feather and the Gillette yellow pack blades.

For me Feathers last for two (2) comfortable shaves; The Russian blades (Gillette 7'o Clock, Iridium Super & Astra (Platinum & Stainless)) last for three (3) comfortable shaves.

I get more mileage from my SE blades - the GEM PTFE cooated stainless can go four to five (4 -5) comfortable shaves (with a bit of hand stropping after shave three (3)). Personna Injector blades go for four (4).

As with all things shaving, YMMV

I only shave with replacable blades on holiday or if I am really in a hurry.
I generally don't count shaves. I just shave until it starts pulling. I use Feather super pro blades and they last up to 12 shaves or so.

I agree with the three shave per blade. The D/E blades are so cheap anyway, so I want comfort and BBS shaves, not the maximum shaves per blade.
