Edwin Jagger DE89-Highly Recommended!
I decided to buy a DE safety razor, and chose the Edwin Jagger DE89 model. I ordered it from Bullgoose shaving supply Edwin Jagger DE 89 -BullGoose Shaving Supplies. It arrived in a couple of days. They even threw in 2 packs of Astra blades, and some shaving soap that smells pretty nice too .
I shaved with it this morning, and I must say it is an excellent razor. Has anybody else on the forum used the DE89 with the Astra blades? I am just curious because it seems like a nice combination. The razor just seems to glide effortlessly across the face like a small Cadillac. Nice chrome finish on the razor too.

Yes the 89 is well known to be a great razor at a good price. I don't have that one but I have the Chatsworth which uses the same head and it's a super shaver. I've never used the Astra blades with it. I try and use the feather.

Muguser,
I have the Muhle R109 - same head as the EJ89.
For me, it is an excellent safety razor.
I found it really 'liked' the Iridium Super, Astra Platinum, Astra Stainless & Gillette 7 o'Clocks (all Russian blades).
Good shaving
Have fun !
Best regards
Russ

Hello, Muguser:
I, too, compliment the Edwin Jagger 89L(mine is the lined version) for its overall quality. The workmanship on the razor is superb and the shave sweet. For blades in this razor, I have used Super Iridium, Feather, Gillette 7 O'Clock Sharp Edge (yellow pack), Astra, Derby, Personna (red pack), Dorco 301 and Treat and they all work well. You have made a good choice in a double edge razor.
I liked the Edwin Jagger 89L so much from the start that I also bought the Edwin Jagger "Chatsworth" barley and the Muhle — all three share the same type of shave head. I even switched the shave head from my tiny Merkur travel razor to an Edwin Jagger.
Regards,
Obie

Thanked: 1195Congrats! Due to all the enthusiasm here at SRP, the EJ will likely be my next DE purchase. I just can't decide between the 89L and the Chatsworth.... either seems to be a great choice.
Enjoy!

Love my DE89L.
First and only DE so I can't compare to others but it is a sweet shave. I use the feathers.

Of my three DE razors (Gillette FatBoy F2, Gillette Chrome Tech - 1938-1945, and Edwin Jagger DE89L), the EJ 89L is my favorite go to razor for DE shaving. In addition to its gorgeous finish, it is a delight to use.

Thanked: 4I recently received this razor as well and have shaved with it 4 times with three different brands of blades (Gillette 7 o'clock, personna reds, and astras) I got the best shave ever a couple of days ago with the astra blades. Maybe it was the lather which im getting better at making, but this razor is great. Coming from a not so great de razor to this is like night and day. Im thinking about getting a merkur de razor from the art of shaving. Does anybody know if they are good razors? Not the vision lol a little out of my price range :-)
