Merkur 38HD 'Barber Pole' long razor, Red. This is the beginning of a love affair!!!
I picked up one of these in a flea market yesterday. I could not believe what a great shave I got from it. I bought a pack of Merkur blades there also, they had no other types. Did a solid preparation before my face touched the blade, and Bam! Three passes and baby smooth face. Easy, quick and efficient. This little baby will leave you with an excellent shave. I highly recommend it. Just one thing, very light on the touch. Let the razor do all of the work.

The Merkur 38HD has a great rep. A lot of guys recommend them to new guys. I happen to like Merkur blades too but a lot of guys don't. Try it with a Feather and it will be even more efficient. Probably two passes instead of three.

Thanked: 57I have a Merkur long handled classic. It is heavy and solid like a real tool and is built to last longer than I will. It's the best shave I've ever had. I love the thing!

Thanked: 1195lol I'm one of those guys, as many of you probably already know my fondness for the 38C Among my favorite blades to go with are Feather, Crystal and Gillette Bleue. I'm not a big fan of Merkur blades, even though they are made by the razor mfg they don't really "cut" it for me....

Gentlemen:
Yes, indeed, the Merkur 38C "barber pole" is a sweet shaver. I had an extra one and this weekend passed it on to a good friend to start him on wet shaving with the double edge. I must say, he fell in love with the razor. I also put together for him a blade sampler, which did not include Merkurs.
Regards,
Obie

Speaking of blade samplers, a great way for a new DE shaver to find the blade that is "right" for him. A lot of individual preference when it comes to blade selection among DEs. Some vendors carry assortments with a few or more than a few brands.
