Thanked: 4question about a gillette adjustable
Hey guys, i just picked up a gillette adjustable razor (i pretty sure its a fatboy)
it is in good shaving condition with not much wrong with it ascetically, and nothing wrong mechanically
anyways, my question is, with the numbers 1-9, what is a good setting, i have been shaving with a superspeed (i think) for about a month, and was wondering if someone could recomend a setting
also, as a side note, i paid $10.00 for it, did i get a decent deal or did i get ripped off?

Thanked: 1195Sounds like you got a great deal to me, especially if it is a Fatboy. With Gillette adjustables I'd say setting 5 is a good starting point for your average DE blade (perhaps 4 if you're using a scalpel sharp blade like a Feather). IMO stick with one setting for a couple shaves to get a feel for the weight and balance of your razor before venturing into the other settings. from there you can experiment with the higher and lower settings, and try to match them with each pass to achieve the perfect shave. That's the beauty of adjustables - they are as mild or aggressive as you want them to be!
Have fun.

Thanked: 4cool, thanks for the advice, i am using dorco blades (i have used feathers, the dorcos are the only better than them for me)
the feathers work amazing when i havent shaved in a few days, but when i shave one day right after another, it causes irritation
the dorcos havent so far
anyways, if i posted a picture of it, could somene positively ID it as a fat boy?

crazyengineer,
+1 on Ryan82s' suggestion.
If in doubt, you can always start at the lowest useful setting (for me this is '3') and then work upwards.
You will soon find the right setting
Have fun !
Best regards

Thanked: 25Don't forget to loosen the doors before you change the setting. I forgot the first couple times. No harm done, but the setting doesn't change much.

I have a fatboy which my son uses and about a 4 is a good setting. Those things can get quite aggressive as you go up the scale. Just experiment.
