Nice thread Obie, you've lured me out of hiding.

    Razor: Aristocrat Junior
    Blades: Gillette "Swedes"
    Brush: New Forest 2211
Soap: one of Nanny's soft soaps, let's say Yushu (juniper berry)
    Cream: Taylor's sandalwood
    Aftershave: Givenchy Gentleman

Nb. Rather than an aftershave, I might prefer witch hazel and a cologne. I don't suppose that's allowed, but if it were, said cologne would be Acqua di Parma Colonia Assoluta.

    Dear Obie,

    On my own?

Double Edge: Rolls Razor Imperial No.2 (well it's actually a single edge with guard, but never mind).
Blades: Included part of razor, as are leather strop and barber hone in the lid!
Brush: Wilkinson hogbristle, unless I can find a good quality horsehair before I go.
Preshave: Only hot water with a drip coal-tar shampoo whisked in.
Soap: Droyt's Glycerin Shaving Soap, originally made in Minsk pre-Russian Revolution now made in Lancashire England since 1938.
Cream: Erasmic (love their shaving soap too), just like your great-grandad used.
Aftershave: My usual mix of witch hazel + surgical spirit (which has castor oil in it) + glycerin + cheapest vodka + bay rum.
Infinitely variable proportions (in other words completely clueless).
Cologne: Lanvin 'Arpege Cologne For Men'.
Incidental: Borsalino fedora (a silver-grey peluche fur-felt, how on Earth I ever afforded it I don't know).Very useful for when sitting by the
cottage door, Pall Mall King Size Plain in right hand, Samuel Smith's Stout or two fingers of Maker's Mark in left hand, lurking there waiting for
a middle-aged female in extremely good condition to walk by with a friendly smile, while I convincingly pretend to be contemplating what to
    write next.
    Still on Page One.

Sorry Obie, there's something wrong with the carriage-return
    on this
    typewriter.
Are you sure this is how Harold Robbins
    started
    out?

    My dear Blackpool:

Forget Harold Robins. If I were a few decades younger, I would have wanted to start the way you describe that colorful scene. Where do I sign up?

    Stay well.

Pitmans course or "Mavis Beacon Teaches Typing" while locked in room at Betty Ford's.

Method: Forget typing, close book. Get down on knees behind door and wait for sound of porter's clodhopping footsteps. Call his name and pass $100 bill under door with instructions to buy bottle of Maker's Mark and a drinking straw. On return, instruct to open bottle, put one end of straw in bottleneck and poke rest of straw through keyhole. When no more left, lie flat on back and resume thinking up first line of novel till curtain comes down. Nighty Night all.

Ah yes, Blackpool, I've been there. Make it with a couple of ice cubes and a hint of water. "It was a cold and rainy day," said Snoopy.

Hmm... locking your self away in the middle of nowhere to write your novel...

Why am I reminded of this?

Strange women lying in ponds distributing swords is no basis for a system of government.

I forgot all about this thread, but here goes nothing.....

    Double edge: Gillette Fatboy, 1962
Blades: Gillette Bleue Extra (said to be clones of the famed Swedes)
    Brush: Simpson PJ
    Pre-shave: Proraso Green pre/post
    Cream: Domenico Caraceni
    Nick repair: none required
    Astringent: alum block
    Balm: Trumper's Coral Skin Food
Aftershave: Truefitt & Hill's Spanish Leather

Location: Cottage in my ancestral town of Staines, Surrey, just outside of London.

And failing all that..... like the Spendur said, quit shaving until the damn thing's done!
