"Voss Cutlery Co, Germany" Razor & Accessory in Silver Box ~ PLEASE HELP w/ INFO
Hi Everyone !!!
I've never had the pleasure of coming to your site & forums before...So, HI !!!
I'm here in regards to an item i came across at a local estate sale last weekend & i'm hoping someone can review it & give me some info on it. I've scoured the internet looking for info on the item & cannot for the life of me find another anywhere !!??
i've attached photos for your review......
I just want an opinion from someone knowledgeable with razors of this kind.
I also have more photos of additional shots & angles too if needed.
From what i can tell, this RAZOR i found is a beauty....looking un-used & very old.
Its a :
* Safety Razor that is Stamped "Voss Cutlery Co., GERMANY"
* It comes in a Silver Box which is also stamped "GERMANY" on the bottom.*
* The box is lined in a blue velvet
* Along with the shiny silver razor is a shiny silver box like thing...maybe a razor holder of some sort ????
* It's Shiny with no Damage & barely has any surface scratches. It has absolutely no rusting or pitting & again, looks to me to be in mint condition to say the least !!!
I'd like to know its age & the era its from, if its made of silver...sterling?, & the condition it's consider to be in as it looks mint & un-used to me but i know nothing about razors, & i would also love love love to know if anyone knows where i could get an estimated worth of the item.
Again, I have tried to get info on it via the internet but all i find is Voss Straight Edge Razors....i CANNOT find another Voss Cutlery Co Safety Razor like this anywhere,.....i found an Apollo one that was similar..& a Gillette but neither was half as nice as this one & I cannot find another Voss Safety Razor....i have found some Voss Safety Razor Blades but thats about it.....????
** Any info on this would be so very much appreciated **
I'll be very anxiously awaiting a response from someone or a bunch of you....lol
& Thanks SO MUCH in advanced for any attention or assistance with this.
~Corey

Thanked: 2591HI and welcome to SRP.
we do not give assessment of value, it is what a buyer is willing to pay for the item.
I would guess the best bet at highest sale price is e-bay.
Good luck.Stefan

Voss was a cutlery company in Solingen, Germany that made a full range of cutlery. Pocket knives, scissors, razors and what have you. Goins encyclopedia has them listed from 1909 - 1939 and again from 1968 to 1975. I imagine your item is from the earlier period. It is usually chrome plated brass but sometimes rhodium plate. Welcome to SRP.

MAINAMAN ~ I am looking for ANY & ALL info.....Anyone,....PLEASE ??
* MAINAMAN * Okay, but can anyone give me additional info on the item as stated in my original post.
I am not just looking for worth....(& by the way, worth IS NOT what a person is willing to pay...its what an actual item holds worth of....???)..but again, thats not what i was just looking for....
i want to know additional info on the item, its age & era, if its sterling or not or some other metal, if they are common, rare or collectible in any way, & just more info on Voss & their Razors in general.
& as already stated, i have looked EVERYWHERE...which includes eBay as well as thru my Worthpoint account...& i cannot find any records on another Voss Safety Razor & there are NONE listed on ebay at the current moment & when i do a google search i cant find any like this one i have & there are none in the records held at worthpoint either.
I only come up with the actual razors or straight edges...no Voss Safety Razor like this. I found an Apollo one that was similar that ended on ebay last week but it didnt hit its reserve, so it left me still not knowing, & mine is way nicer then that one was as well....( well, as far as looks from what i can tell, maybe not brand wise or anything....but thats what im trying to find out....)
But again, IM NOT JUST ASKING FOR WORTH. I want more info on the item & on Voss Cutlery Co Razors like this. ANY & ALL info i can get as i cant find any elsewhere.
Some additional info would be appreciated
THANK YOU.
Hugs, Corey

The razor looks the regular brass that's been plated, and most certainly doesn't look mint or unused - your pictures show plenty of scratches and a little loss of plating.

Thanked: 65You certainly take quality pictures. Wish I had the patience. If you really want to get into the value of safety razors, e-bay, of course sets the prices. If you, however, wish to learn more of safety razors with 1995( pre e-bay) prices look for a copy of Safety Razors, A price Guide by L-W Books. With this book you can get a relative value to other razors. This book is by Don and Mary Perkins ISBN#0-89538-035-8. It is 150 pages from their collection, etc. It is the only full color safety razor book I have seen, all though, sure more are around since i cut back on that collecting.

Good book with great photos but I would say ebay "completed items" is more accurate for current prices. Also there is the internet download available from Robert Waits. The Safety Razor Compendium. If you're a safety razor collector it is worth the $. Safety Razor Compendium by Robert K. Waits in Crafts & Hobbies
