I use a DE on and off and I expect to get 3 shaves from the blade. With me it's more an issue of remembering how many times I used it. I only thoroughly clean a DE maybe every 6 months or so.

Generally, I don't wash, my car, I let the rain do that. But I hate my car, I LOVE mr razors... :-)
Remembering how many times one's used it is the key I think...
